So i was thinking about removing the 2" blocks on the rear axle and fab up some custom shackles to lift it. Has anyone done custom shackles? or know how to modify(extend) the stock ones?

Whats the gain on doing this? im expecting to gain the 2" of lift from the blocks and maybe some flex, because with stock leafs and blocks it wont flex that much.

So any help and pictures would be appreciated!

It's easy. Just take a couple pieces of flat stock, drill holes where the bolt goes through and weld in a cross member.

Or if it's the shackle that is on the side of the frame. I made a drop bracket took the bracket off the frame (took out the rivets) and bolted the bracket lower. I'd love to send pictures of both but don't know how.

The reason for doing it is there is a lot less axle wrap with no blocks.

Hell, if it's the type that the bracket is on the side of the frame I could sell you my old bracket (I'm not using it anymore). It is adjustable (I was bored) from 1" to 3 or 4" (don't remember, it's been a while since I had that truck).

Actually Capt, im looking for a way of making these things:

by myself. u know shipping stuff over here is way to expensive. :annoyed:

you would want to lower the front hangers an equal amount

you would want to lower the front hangers an equal amount

why? ive seen millions of threads here with belltech shackle swaps and ive yet to see someone lower the front hangers too. if anything it would help straighten out the pinion angle wouldnt it?
not arguing, just wanting to hear your reasoning:icon_thumby:

I just dropped the bracket. I just used a 1.5" plate. Drilled holes to bolt to the rivet holes and then just drilled holes lower and bolted the bracket to it. (and some reinforcements behind it).

someone made their own i just cant remember who it is. i know i've seen. i'm gonna poke around and see if i can find them.

it is indeed. i almost want to box my frame in, while workin on the rear bumper today i bent the hell out of my frame by just tapping it with the hammer lol, they should be made of 1/4 plate

yeah, those bad boys could survive nuclear war i think. seems like they're 1/4" or 5/16". they're pretty cool IMO. i'd build some, but i bought a set of the chevy lowering ones when i worked at autozone. less than $20 with my discount.
