Now, obviously, common sense says "absolutely not". But, i swear there is some sort of connection.

I had a REALLY bad passenger side bearing. Truck would hardly move (thought e brake was stuck on). I think i didn't notice it quickly because the roads are so rough where I live. Anyway, when i took the hub off i could barely turn the bearing by hand and could see molten steel in it.

Anyway, at the same time the bearing got really bad I found it extremely hard to get the truck into gear from a stop (all gears). After i changed out the hub, the problem seems to have gone away.

My only theory is that a tiny amount of movement in the driveline is required to get into gear smoothly and since my bearing was so bad the one front axle was stopping all movement?????

Perhaps my CV axle is fucked too, and if so, would that cause the shifting issue?

Preloading the driveline with a stuck axle will cause the condition...

Try going to neutral second and then into first I find that usually helps a lot more than going right into first

Yeah, i find that to be necessary since i got the truck at 60 000km (and every other Ranger i've had). Not being smart - just agreeing with you

Okay,

So you are saying my axle could have been stuck, which makes sense to me considering the state of the bearing. How was i pre loading the drive line?

Is preloading the driveline taking all the slack out?

Maybe also time to check, scrutinize all the lubrication fluids down under

By rolling to a stop and having the wheel stick...
