is it ok to pressure wash a block with the crankshaft and camshaft installed and torqued? after i put them in some fine dust has settled on my motor and i would really like to clean it before i finish building it. i have a 92 explorer that i plan to take the d35 and the 8.8 out of and put them in a b2 with a 302 and 4:56 gears,i'll eventually transfer the transfer case too. my question concerning that project is how or can i put it in 4h and lock it in since the truck will be in the mud 100% of the time i won't be needing to shift from one to the other.it's an electronic shift transfer case.

:icon_confused:if it was me i would wait until the motor is put together and then wash it because then you will have less chance of getting water in the motor, if all you want to do is get the light dust off use a painters tack cloth to remove the dust. it's more time consuming but in the long run it's safer.:icon_hornsup:

Spray carb cleaner to remove the dust. Let it run into the oilpan and then change the oil.

depends on how much dust. it would make me nervous enough to remove the crank, etc.but i would use carb or brake clean and compressed air not water.

well the cam and crank should be lubed. The cleaner and washing would take some of that away. And with washing you could have some water settle in the block and not know it.

I am very anal about these thing and if it was me I would just take it all out and cleaned it and relube it out of the block then throw some covering over the engine to keep dust from getting in the engine. But then again taking all that stuff out is second nature to me and wouldn't take me more than 30 min.

Just my 2 cents

would disasemble everything and re-lube never wash open never
