Couple fun pictures from work

Is that a Moline with a Marville-Schrebler or a Zenith ?

The pic I posted is of a '42 WC, it could have either a Zenith or Mavel carb. To be completely honest I haven't really looked at that very close yet.

The carb is the least of its problems right now...

Oops... Relized I did a "no no".

About the "Asteroids" thing... wasn't trying to hijack the thread, had noticed by the trophy under ADSM's banner that he is "High score" in the arcade asteroids in this forum....

Sorry, I am just tired of people hacking the old 6.2 when they have no experience with them. I apologize for heaping you into that uninformed lot.

The magic of diesel fuel and turbochargers is that it's like firewood--just dump it in and power comes out.

I have a 7.3 in my 2000 van and it's weak. I know it has no intercooler, is de-tuned by Ford because it's tucked back in a van, but it's weak. I'm afraid to tow with it. Passing an Amish buggy is like getting an Olympic Gold for this thing. It does get excellent mileage though. Plus, it sounds cool.

My other experience with 7.3s is when I borrowed a 2003 crewcab dually from n9emz 3 different times to pick up stuff from the East Coast. That truck had a 6-speed and supposedly 275hp and 525ft#. Once I put my trailer on it, it was slow. My truck you stomp on the gas and it GOES. This thing was slow. I was in the hills in Penn and downshifting, which is unbelievable. Finally, i noticed that once you set the cruise the computer would give the engine the fuel. It was very strong with the cruise on and I didn't have to downshift. But accelerating with a loaded trailer was still a problem as you can't have the cruise on for that bit.

My bus/RV has the DTA360 with a 6-speed and though it's only rated at 185hp, I'd love to have a pickup with that motor in it. It feels a lot bigger than that.

I drove M813 6x6s with 240hp Cummins 14-liters in them pulling 155mm howitzers back in my youth. A 5.9-7.3 engine with a turbo would have been a huge improvement. I totally value horsepower.

The 7.3 is not the most powerful thing out there in stock form, but open up the back pressure valve permanently, or better yet, ditch the waste gate turbo for a VGT, turn up the fuel pump a hair, and get a big intercooler on it, she will rip.

And I can understand you assuming that I was busting on the 6.2 just because it's a GM engine and I'm a Ford guy.

FWIW I'd take a 5.9 Cummins over most other engines.

I want to replace this 6.2 with an engine that can make power without making me nervous. A Cummins is an obvious choice as it can be fitted to the TH400. I do prefer the V8 sound, though. I was riding with a guy a couple of weeks ago in a Dodge Ram with a 5.9 and he was showing off his tuner and impressing me with black smoke. I was thinking that it sounded a lot like the 6-bangers we made fun of in high school. Anyway, I wouldn't take off the muffler so it's no big deal. I like to hear the turbo more than the buzz. I like the V8 rumble more than the turbo, though.

I don't think the 5.9 sounds bad at all. I work with a guy who drives a 5.9. Until it gets right up next to me I honestly can't tell the difference between the 5.9 and the 6.0 just by sound.

At idle they sound similar. Once they wind up a 6 is very different than an 8, diesel or gas. I do think the Cummins is more "buzzy" than a V8 diesel at RPM.
