Looks cleaner if hidden. But doesn’t bother me either way. Do what makes you happy.
 
If you hide the controller, I wouldn't even realize the truck had a winch at a glance.
 
Hidden would be great if you had a wireless controller.

I was just down this road but I have a wired remote, my setup is totally different so you can't really do what I did.

That was why I didn't, I figured I would have to open the hood or crawl under the truck every time I needed the winch... which under normal winching conditions is less than ideal...
 
Which is why I jumped on the HF synthetic and wireless 12k combo when it went on sale last year.

It is only $40 or whatever to convert my Smittybilt with the HF controller but I had a lot going on right then. I went with a $10 mounting plate that solved my issue and kept the box easily accessible with no fuss.
