anyone know where I can get the pushrods? compcams say need different ones but don't market them...looking at getting the 410 cam- they say need different valve springs as well, thx

Ok,I can help you here on this one but I dont think your going to like the answers.I just went thru all this while putting a comp 422 cam in my 4.0.First smith brothers makes the push rods for this cam but be prepared to pay over 90 bucks for the set.I can get you the part number for them but if you call 1-800-367-1533 they will know exactly what you need. They have a website also,I think its smithbros.com or something.Second, comp cams makes the springs and they are part number 288 and are double springs. Now comes the fun part. The only retainers made to fit these springs to your head were made by crane under part number 99947 and were discontinued several years ago.I live close to summit racing so I went in there and seen if they had anything close and they did not.I ended up lucky to find a set of the old crane 99947 from member "bird"...he was invaluable in verifying what I needed to use my cam and also cuttng out the BS on what I didnt need.I have heard and bird told me this as well that LS1 retainers will work just as good as the crane parts. You will also need to cut the spring pad step on your heads, cut the guide boss down to around .500" for retainer clearance and also cut them for PC seals, which your head guy should know anyway. You will however be able to use your stock valve locks with the crane retainers.Hope I havent scared you.I personally called comp cams several times over the aggravation...they make these cams for the 4.0 which is a very popular motor but neglected to manufacture the supporting parts we need to use it and make it a "drop in" part.I see both the 410 and 422 cams show up on ebay all the time because people found all this out afterwards of buying the cam. Both of these cams are very good by the way.Personally,I would only use the 422 as they seem to squeeze out all the 4.0 can give but I think they are more or less for manual trans only.Either way, good luck, your going to need it.

Thanks for the info, a lot more helpful than compcams. Same deal with the 410 cam? Wish someone carried valve springs that didn't require head machining. Short of this I am think I am at a dead end at getting any more power out of my.4.0 ohv.

Compcams say that's why they don't Offer a kit..most people interested on camming these motors not interested in machine work. Involved .

What don't understand is why.beehive style valve springs aren't available, would elimitate any machine work altogether. Seems to be the biggest headache of this mod.

The 422 cam i have read it can make the motor idle funny is that true.
i been thinking of freshening up my motor and putting in a cam.

they say it makes for loop idle sort of thing my guess would be to bump up the idle speed if you dont like it.
just be prepaid for a lot of searching for parts. read what stx4.0 and bird have on the subject i am in the process of doing one my self so i should have some fresh info.
