So some guy on the explorer forums did a coil swap:

I was wondering if I could just leave the torsion bars in to support the control arm then gusset out the upper shock mount and beef up the lower shock mount like he did on his expo, so that way it would lift the frame. What's the point of the limit strap? If I left my t bars in wouldn't it support the a arm? I wanna do this because it seems cheaper and easier to get 5" of suspension lift out of that sort of setup. And the ride quality seems like it may be better, let me know if I'm crazy though :D

You cant have torsion bars and coil overs..... You realize it is probably around $1000 for just the coil overs. And you would still need a drop bracket lift to get the truck much higher than 2".

What does that mean? And I can get a pair of fox 2.0 shocks with coil overs (1 unit) for $400.

To get more height than just leveling the truck out you would still need a lift kit with taller knuckles and drop brackets for the control arms and front diff. So ya 400 per shock plus taxes...right around $1000.

Okay gotcha that makes sense for the cv angles and what not too. Damnit every time I think of an alternative to a sas it always ends up being no! Oh well no way around a beefier axle :D
