My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
there is a little plastic clip(?) that keeps the clutch pedal connected to the actuator. I have replaced it myself, and had a shop do it, in case I did something wrong. But it keeps breaking. Is there permanent fix for this? Am I the only one who has this problem? I saw in one thread that wanted to know about "Ranger Problems", but did not see anybody mention this. I've replaced it three times already and it seems to last for a while , then Snap. Pedal to the floor.

Definitely not a normal repetitive failure item. Can you take a picture of exactly what breaks?

I cant post pics on this site. I can text it to you later if you don't mind?

I'll PM you an email address to use, but why can't you post pictures?

Clutch pedal linkage

So the little clip in the first pic is supposed to go through the clutch pedal and snap into the chrome actuator. It works when it's new, but gets worn out and fails. The only thing we could think of was a bent clutch pedal, but that's some pretty tough steel, Can't see it bending under normal conditions. How could I even test to see if its bent? its pretty cramped in there to try to get a straight edge next to it. is it even straight to begin with?

Not sure about the clip wearing out and breaking. Is it a Ford made clip or an aftermarket replacement?

When I put my truck back together years ago I couldn't find that clip and so I just looped a piece of steel wire around the shaft and it's been holding fine for 4-5 years now.

Aftermarket clip, Never found the original clip, The first one I replaced simply broke to pieces, this is the second one, I bought from Discount AP, Make it the third one total. I thought about the wire through the hole trick, but didn't know how long it would last through wear & tear

6 yrs so far:D

Look around on your carpet for the pieces of the plastic snaps that are attached to the plastic linkage. If any broke off, its only a matter of time before the whole thing pops off the clutch pedal pin. Mine broke at 400 miles and they replaced everything as they said some defective Clutch pedal pins were installed. The actual pin is pressed into the arm on the pedal and it gets loose and as you press the pedal down, it twists inside the plastic linkage and tears the teeth of the clasps off. If your still covered under warranty bring it back. If not or you want to wait it out, bring a zip tie with you becaquse when it breaks, it will keep falling off the pin and will only give you one shift after you put it back.

dj8lp8 No warranty, but sounds like you have had the same problem. Yes Every time I depress the pedal , the clip twists and fails. My truck is completely gutted right now, except for dash and steering column so finding the old pieces is out of the question. I will go to my Parts dealer and get another one. Hopefully I can remedy this problem. If I find a good fix, I will post it.

Would a hose clamp be too wide to use as a retainer?

we recenlty put a new MC and SC in the new old truck I got about 3 weeks ago. the "clip" should be with the little tangs outward, you will see the groove in which they should snap into. Other option drill a hole for a washer and cotter pin.. how... near impossible in the truck LOL

Not sure what you mean by using a hose clamp as a retainer, but I'm willing to try anything.

I second the washer cotter pin trick

One more thought is that if post on pedal is loose and pressed into arm then tack Weld it on the back side of it.
