I just got done putting my new clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing, slave cylinder and pressure plate and rear main seal on my 1986 ranger about a week ago..
I changed it because the old one felt like it was slipping bad and i thought maybe oil got on it. I have drove the truck 200 miles and its still acting like the clutch is slipping. it gradually got worse since the day i put the new clutch in and now. Now it does it especially after the truck has been drove for a few minutes, when going up hill, higher RPMs, and when you put your foot to the floor in a higher gear.
At first it mainly did it in 2nd gear at higher RPMs.. now it does it in first, second, third and fourth gears.. especially if you put your foot to the floor. I think maybe the clutch is slipping, but its a brand new clutch and brand new flywheel.. i cleaned the mating surfaces before installing.
Does anyone have any idea at all what the problem could be?

As many of you know a 2.3 already lacks power, on 31" mud terrains and 3.45 gears if you dont put your foot on the floor it barely moves. Just saying why im flooring it before i get asked. :icon_thumby:

Try this test:
Engine off.
Push in clutch pedal all the way 6 to 10 times, release pedal.
Open bleeder on the slave if you get a squirt of fluid then the check valve in the Master is bad.

The slave should always have 0 pressure when foot is off the clutch pedal, just like brake slaves/calipers.

In the Master there is a check valve that holds pressure when you push down on the pedal and then opens when foot is off the pedal, this allows fluid to flow from the reservoir into master in case there is a leak.

If this check valve sticks closed then each time you press in the clutch pedal you build up a little pressure in the slave that isn't released, this causes the slave to stay slightly expanded which causes the slipping clutch feeling, because clutch is slipping.

From your description of it "slipping more after driving a bit" this would fit as a possible problem.

How was the Fly wheel when you had it apart? Did you have it resurfaced? any noticeable hot spots on it from signs of clutch slippage? If it was machined was it still with in specs?

Oops just read you replaced the flywheel. still how was it compared to the original you pulled out?
