Hello I'm new to this website and to posting to forums. I have a 99 ranger 4x4 with a 3.0 l engine and 5 speed trans. I'm having a hard time with my clutch. I replaced everything except for the master cylinder, couldn't get it to bleed and stiffen up. Replaced the master cylinder with a pre-bled set up, works great, but the rod that connects to the pedal won't stay on. And the rod won't lock into the cylinder that goes through the firewall. My old one is locked in and it doesn't fall off the pedal. I've taken the snap ring out of the inside of the piston, put rod in and replaced the snap ring but that doesn't do anything to the rod. It came disconnected when I bought it. I thought it just snapped in there. Any suggestions?

it does just snap in, provided the locking tabs are not damaged. as the rod goes into the master it pushes past some tangs that snap into the recess on the rod.
there is a plastic clip that holds the rod to the pedal, they easily break when removing.
check out this post, scroll down for the plastic clip.

Yes I'm familiar with the plastic piece on the pedal end. That's what keeps popping off. It's a new bushing, but I think it is popping off due to the pushrod is not secured inside the piston.
I just reach down and pop it back on. The locking tabs must be the problem I will see if I can get a pick in there and pull the tabs out a little bit so they will grab into the rod thank you!
