I just got a 1997 and 2000 explorer 5.0 from a dealership that took them as cluckers....they pored that liquid glass into the engines....will the heads still be good?

I also want to make sure this combo will work....I have a 1998 ranger ext cab with a 3.0 /auto 2wd......I want to put a 5.0 explorer 2wd set up into it....use a 1997 (gt40) engine with the 2000 explorer returnless fuel system and harness and ecu from the 2000....I have used the SEACH to the full extence...and I know the 1998 ranger was No Pats and returnless...but a 2000 explorer has PATS...how do I get around that?

and I am still very confused about motor mounts...will the 2wd explorer work or not...seen post saying both

no the heads will be shot. do you know what that glass shit does?

they drain the oil out of the motor and put in a liquid glass. once it his a hits 180 degrees the liquid starts to harden and its pumped everywhere the oil goes. so it keeps getting hard till it turns in a solid and stops the motor. you cant get the glass out unless it reaches 1500 degrees. this shit get in all the bearings and anyplace oil would go. so it destroyers any internal parts on the motor. they use this so that the motors cant be reused they want the motors off the road since they arent very fuel efficient

that c f c thing was the stupidest thing ever, but it did send the price of scrap metal up. lucky for me, i just happened to have some laying around. JACKPOT

Now how exactly did YOU get the vehicles? According to the CARS program regulations, the vehicle would be sent to dismantlers(aka junkyard/auto recyclers) whom signed up with the Govn't to be part of the program..and the vehicle to be destroyed completely within 90 days(I believe).

No kidding, that dealer could be facing some major fines if that's the real story.

they are sold to scrap yards, as body/interior parts are sold. actually, all the scrap yard owners i've talked to dont even use the liquid glass, in fact, the 1994 explorer we have has an engine out a CFC vehicle. who the heck is gonna check vins? noone. although the wrecker we got ours from was a good friend, and wouldn't sell them to anyone

i have a scrap lience.....i only got 2 cars...I buy cars and trucks and strip them to sell parts on ebay...I am going to tear the engines apart to see how bad they are

There is a stack of forms to filled out when you do that CFC that is 1/2" thick, and yes there are fines if they are not destroyed.

Yes, there has been a change in the original program that allows the dealerships to sell or auction the CFC cars off AFTER they are killed (motors locked up), but there are stipulations that the salvage yards have to comply with too, the vehicle can't be dismantled (like some larger salvage yards do, as in dismantle it, and put doors here, hood there, fenders here, bumpers there, ect, ect), the salvage yard has to keep it complete, sell parts off of it for 30 days, then they are required to CRUSH IT!

I'd tread softly and keep it hush hush if I was you..............I know that me personally, don't want Uncle Sam lookin for/at me with a magnifyin glass to see if they can find dirt on ya!

The '97' Explorer may or not have the GT-40 heads, they switched mid year. If you want to use the 2000 wiring and computer, you are going to add the PAT's module and corresponding key transponder. Why not use the '97' Explorer wiring and computer? It really doesn't care which fuel system you run.

What The Hell Is A Clucker?

A gas engine Dodge truck.:thefinger:

I think its a vehicle that doesn't get good gas milage. My dad has a friend that tried to do the Cash for Cluckers to an 94 Oldsmoble thats getting 12 or so MPG. Well turns out they say its not a clunker because when it came out of the factory it was getting 22 MPG so that disqualified it.:annoyed:

Mac....Thanks so very much....I am stripping both and keeping everything until I get my ranger running....so the 97 computer will operate the 2000 returnless system, I am not going to use either engine....I have been buying explorer engines for 2 years and have 9 good running engines on engine stands, but I have been doing mustang conversions....but I got a 1998 ext cab ranger with a 3.0 auto 2wd in great shape for 400 dollars...now i would love a 5.0 GT40 ranger with 17 inch bullitts and jump all over the V-8 dodge dakotas
