This spring, for the first time since 1803, two groups of cicadas, known as the Great Southern Brood and the Northern Illinois Brood, will appear at the same time, in an event known as dual emergence.

According to experts, some trillion cicadas will begin to appear in late April for about six weeks.

People living in the Midwest and the southeast across 16 states will be able to experience the rare event.

I hate those things.

I het them, too. It's going to be a noisy summer.

We have had them bad a couple years ago... they sure do make a bunch of noise.

Meh. Ill stock up on wiper fluid

Lived in GA all my life. Could swear that I've heard about cicadas doing this a few times in my life.

I hate those things, too. We don't have them in NH, I was first exposed to them when my daughter moved to State College, Pa. for grad school. One hit the bottom of the windshield on my Ranger on Interstate 80 and the guts smeared all the way to the roof. I remodelled the house she bought in the next town. As I was pushing an 8 foot sheet of bead board through a Mickey Mouse table saw borrowed from their neighbor a cicada landed on my neck. Luckily I knew what it was and didn't jump because that would have ruined the piece I was cutting. Another time one flew down out of a tree and hit me right in the forehead. Score:hard headed Yankee-1, cicada -0.

They don't really fly well enough to get to roads.
They cover the road here. Sounds like your popping popcorn. We have some every year but seems like every few years we get a big infestation. They do make great fishing bait.

advise to ladies during the swarm, don't wear skirts

men, get ready to laugh.

Just thinking back I don't think I have ever seen one on a vehicle.

I am sure we will have some happy chickens...

We have them all the time here in south texas. Thats normal back ground noise

I saw the article yesterday and smiled. Glad I don't live in PHX anymore. lol noisy and kept me awake at nights when I was a youngster.

Aw, it wasn't THAT bad; and my hearing was even working a lot better for that one.

Sometimes they would spook the horses, though . . .
