I want to replace the chrome tips on my Gibson dual exhaust and put on plain steel or flat black straight tips. Any suggestions?

I have a square stainless steel double wall tip on my '09. The double wall is the key, they dont blue show carbon build up that bad. Just my 2 cents.

I have single wall stainless tips on my '150, no apreciable carbon showing on the outside of the tips.

Stainless is the key, if you don't do that you might as well just use pain pipe... otherwise it will be rust in a short period of time.

Go to a muffler shop, ask to dig through their scrap pile. Find yourself some tarnished or otherwise flawed stainless tip. Clean them with a Scotchbrite pad and dish washing liquid.

Install them on the exhaust and run them for a while. Let them cool until comfortable to the touch, but noticeably warm. Spray them with some black header paint from the parts store, let it dry for a minute or two, then start the truck and let the heat of the exhaust bake the coating on. I have done this on a driver with $1 gloss black spray paint and it was still flawless semi-gloss black when the muffler bit the dust.
