Okay, so I have a base model 2001 XLT, no power windows or locks. The dome light will come on when I open the passenger door, it will also come on when I roll the dimmer switch all the way "clicked" up. The left and right bulbs work when moving the dome light switch to those respective sides. I noticed that if I have the door open and key in the ignition, there are no chimes as well. I removed and sprayed the snot out of the switch and re-installed it and no change ( I did this because against my better judgment, I bought a Dorman door switch for $6 from RockAuto that broke into 3 pieces when I went to twist it into place) for the record, I hate Dorman, just junk all around but I took a gamble, shame on me. Should I hear chimes with key in the ignition but in the off position with the door open? I am debating looking for a broken wire, I would think its not a fuse as all other variables have the dome light working normally, or should I just get a Motorcraft door switch?

the 3rd gen + have a kinda crappy designed door open electrical switch that is integrated in the lock... a lot of people posting about "dome light wont go off"... my guess is the PO of your vehicle defeated this switch rather than fix it. (to fix it lube the lock a bunch+often)... look for wiring to door that is clipped/capped off.

I doubt they did, the guy was a moron for the lack of a better word. He has no vehicle knowledge whatsoever. He owned the truck 15 years and only did oil changes and not sure how often because he only drove it 5K a year. I will try a new door switch I think and then if that doesn't work, start looking at wiring. I inspected the wiring from the switch all the way to the door to cab boot and didn't see anything. I has half tempted to pull the boot back and inspect it because my history with Fords and broken door wires has a long past.........

Also, this truck has absolutely no aftermarket anything, stock stereo and speakers, all stock halogen bulbs, it literally looks like it did when it was bought new, except the accumulation and layers of dirt on the outside.
