i dont know much about catalytic converters so hopefully some one can answer my question: since the cat in my 94 3.0 ranger is as big as it is ,because its stock, is there a way i could put one in it that is less restrictive than the stock one but will still let the truck pass emissions

I put some high-flow cats on a mustang I used to have... i think they were called "cat-co high-flow" converters... Search google for something like that and see what you come up with. I'm pretty sure they did as good or better job compared to stock. Good luck.

Yes you can put a single aftermarket cat on and pass emissions just fine, your stock cats are not very restrictive though, you wont notice any gain other than sound.

the stock cat converter will flow more exhaust than your stock motor could ever hope to produce.

like hahnsb2 said, the only change will be in the sound and weight of the wallet.

The first cat converters were restrictive POS's. New cat's really don't hold much back, at all. I doubt you'd notice any gain at all.

ya me friends works at a muffler shop and everyday he sees people coming in buying high flow cats and he trys to tell them that they dont do anything, and sometime cuz where i live the police are strict on how loud ur vehicle is and he gets alot of people coming back saying they got a 48h notice to change the sound of there vehicle cuz its to loud, they ddont help in the performance department just make it sound louder
