Cash for clunkers giving me $4500.00 for my truck

The government should step back and watch. It is not thier job to do this, nor bail out companies. Either way in the end we and out kids pay for this, where do you think this money comes from? The government does not make any money like a business, they tax it from us, which to an extent I do belive in, but I do believe the thing where the government is for the people by the people meaning they are out employees, they arent listening to a vast majority of us and are doing what they want when they want, would you be fired from you job for acting like this and spending your bosses money without permission?

I'll make this my last political based statement. That said this money was spent WITH out permission. We elect representatives, senators, presidents, etc. and they speak for us, or in this case, give our permission. I think the$1,000,000,000 spent on this program already is nothing. Even if they were to spend $10,000,000,000 on this I would be fine. Heck, they spent what, $700,000,000,000 on the war in Iraq in the past couple of years? I think this is a drop in the bucket when you step back and look at it.

Can you tell me how much lift and what size tires you have on your Ranger. I just ordered a 4" Rough Country lift for my sons 89 and want to show him how it will look when we are done.

Thanks,

Larry

I'm sure the Camaro is well worth the crappy mpg. You wouldn't get that car as a DD anyways. If you wanted it as DD, you could try for the V6 (3.6L) which makes 306hp. That's pretty impressive compared to some of the other popular V6's out there, new Challenger - 250hp "HO" 3.5L, or Mustang - 210hp 4.0L... Personally, the only cars I would buy from GM: Corvette LS1 or Caddy CTS-V ('cause I'm 6ft 6) :icon_thumby:

The Camaro's V-6 is supposed to be pretty peaky though, and doesn't really feel like it has 300 hp.

I read that in a review, I have yet to find someone to let me verify that...:icon_thumby:

They killed about the only non Corvette GM car I would buy, I always thought Pontiacs was a pretty decent looking lineup.

turtle you are syaing my point to a point!?!?! They need to stop this now! I have fired them all in my mind ecexpt for one or two who need to be moved up. DAVE RAMSEY FOR TREASURY SECRETARY HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

DAVE RAMSEY FOR TREASURY SECRETARY HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Excellent idea. Dave Ramsey is a great voice of common sense. His advice when presented with a person or family with huge debt usually includes: "Sell your cars with the big monthly payments and get something cheap, used and dependable - you don't get the luxury of a fancy, not-paid-for car/truck until you get out of DEBT!".

just to clear something up, i dont sit at my tail pipe and sniff my exhaust fumes. i had an over heating problem which turned out to be my thermostat and i checked my exhaust to see if i was burnin any coolant to make sure that i didnt blow my head gaskets.. hey if a little $9000 kia is your thing go for it, but i personally think those little "green" compact cars suck. they are unsafe deathtraps and barely have enough power to get out of their own way. and while they arent forcing people to turn in their old gas hogs, the next step will be to do so. i dont think the government should be bailing out the auto makers, they should let them fail. its also not the government job to make sure people have new vehicles, there are plenty of good used vehicles that are reliable and affordable. what is the government gonna buy them up too so they can blow the motors and crush them too? sorry if i dont drink the governments coolaid.

Heh, someone do me a favor and name one government agency that actually has done what it was made and set forth to do, there is ony one of them to give you a hint......

O damn i thought this question was deleted i posted the thread but never found it. HUH. Dont worry i wont traded as i had already said. I realized i can have a new car and be like everyone else or have the my opinion the best looking ranger in town.

MichiganLarry: I'll give you the specs later today........

don,t know about you guy but my 95 v6 gets 26 over the road and that still better then most new trucks

Its a piece of shit. built on a cadillac platform

Being uneducated doesn't mean you can just spout incorrect information.

The new Camaro is based off the Zeta platform. There is no current or past Cadillac that has used the Zeta platform. The Zeta originated in Australlia with Holden.

What you're probably thinking of is the fact that the new Camaro uses the CTS's direct injection V6. If that is a negative to you, then you're just a senseless Ford fanboy. The Camaro's V6 is nearly on equal footing with the mustangs V8! I dare you to compare the Camaro's Cadillac sourced 306hp V6 to the Mustangs 210hp pile.:icon_confused:

Interesting. I had an S10 with a 383 stroker (LT1) and I got 9 mpg.:icon_confused:

Gen II's (LTx) are not as efficient as the Gen. IV motors like the LS3 used in the new Camaro SS. Especially when LS motors are paired with the T-56 double overdrive 6 speed. LS1 powered C5 corvettes could see 30mpg+ highway. Plus you're S10 was a truck, was aftermarket throughout (built for performance not economy), probably had a nasty cam,, was either TPI or carbed, and most likely was attached to a slushbox or a T-5. Not exactly the makins for a gas sipper.

As for the trade in. If you really want the car and more importantly, if you can afford it. I say go for it. The new Camaros are great cars (if a bit porky) and make great GT's. If you're into handling, it'll take a bit of lightneing and suspension work but You can get it there (altho i suggest a used car if you plan on anything past minor gutting and suspension mods). Personally I think the new Camaro would make a great DD. and unless you absolutely need over 400hp, the V6 is plenty strong.

LOL. You're about spot on. I have an LT1 with a T-56 sitting in the garage. The 383 (LT1) in it did have a nasty cam and it had the 4L60E behind it. All out of a 96 Impala SS. I didn't know a lot about it because I didn't build it. Probably the best $2000 i've ever spent. :D

Drove past a dealership yesterday and saw a nice looking white Gen II Ford Explorer out on the front lawn with clunker spray painted all over it. It was a damn shame. It looked like a nice vehicle. Destroying a perfectly good vehicle for cash.

All the program is doing is taking affordable cars off the market for those that cant afford to finance a new car. Like Ron Paul said, its like a business owner going on on a corner in front of his business, handing money to people and telling them they have to spend it at his shop, then going home at the end of the day and patting himself on the back over how much money he's made.

It's going to lead to inflation down the road. I just hope the temporary stimulation to the auto industry is worth it... :dunno:
