The carrier bearing on my 94 ranger was totally shot so I replaced it and now it makes a horrible squealing noise as soon as you try to drive. I don't know if the yolk nut is not tight enough, or if it needs to be lined up better or what. If anybody has had this problem before i would appreciate some help. The book just says to remove yolk, and replace bearing. They make it sound so simple. Thanks

Looking at your sig it says that you are rolling 37's. I would assume that you have some pretty extreme driveline angles out back. Rather than replacing the carrier bearing, I would suggest a one piece driveshaft swap. I just picked a shaft up for $35 from the local junkyard.

Mine did that after I replaced mine a while back. The metal shield on one side of it was rubbing on something and getting hot.

As stated, you might want to look into a 1-piece swap or think about lowering the cross-member the bearing is mounted to. I'd imagine you've probably got some pretty substantial vibrations coming from a start.

yeah, vibration is horrible taking off from a stop. a one-piece will fix that vibration huh? i will have to look around for some info on that. thanks guys.

Anybody know what year(s) 1pc. drive shaft will fit an '89 Ranger XLT(125" w.b./2w.d./auto-xmsn/2pc. driveshaft)I looked in the tech section but didn't find any details...I'll do a search in the meantime---let me know if you got info....

'98up 2WD Supercab with auto trans.

A few reports of needing minor floorpan mods on 2WDs have surfaced in the past due to the shaft's bigger diameter. Be prepared with a hammer in case a bit more clearance is needed.

Edit: also, if your truck has the small pattern rear pinion flange, you'll need to swap the flange on the new driveshaft to mate up with it.

Thanks for the details--off to the shopping mall (u-pull-it) tomorrow--ain't this site great:icon_hornsup:

i have gotten a little off topic from my original post but i just went and picked up a one piece shaft today. Will i need to try and relocate the crossmember that is in the way or can i just get rid of it? I think the front of the gas tank is held up by it, even if i move the brace forward, this will be a problem wont it?

The cross member that the carrier bearing was attached to? You can toss it, it adds no structure to the frame.
