Carb?

Cool. Glad you could get that confusion settled. It was amazing how you took a 2.3 and turned it into a 2.8 by just getting the decimal place off by one.

Rockin, what do you suppose your max RPM might be with your carbed setup? Would 6,000 be roughly what you might go for? That's where the redline is at for my turbo coupe 2.3.

Gungfudan, I look forward to seeing your calculations with the new numbers.

ok I went ahead and calculated both manual and automatic for you. With a manual transmission you are looking at 137 CFM and automatic 152 CFM

so you have the one barrel intake setup?

yeah i don't see me pushing it past 6k, it is a stock motor (bored .040 over with .020 under mains and rod bearings. I think it is .020 might have to recheck that) and the truck does have a manual transmission. The intak is actually a 2 barrel intake with an adapter on it right now. The main selling point of the Holley 94 is that i already have it so i don't have to worry about buying a carb. Which if 137cfm is accurate i believe i should be in the clear using it.

And did you say 2.3 turned into a 2.8l? The gears are turning.......

The 2.3s will thrive in the 4-6k RPM range. I see no reason NOT to get it up to that speed every once in a while.

The cubic inch displacement of the 2.8 is 171. If you were to bore your engine out by .4", then it would be a 2.8. However, your cylinder walls aren't thick enough to allow you to do that. Machine shops will laugh at you if you told them to do it, too.

If you want to spend $2500 or so, you can get a kit to turn your 2.3 into a 3.0 by stroking and boring your block out as far as it can go. At that point, though, you're losing useable power because your intake and exhaust manifolds aren't able to really support that amount of flow.

Well i will push it up there every now and then to "clean out the carbon" but i don't know what redline is on these motors. I have never had a tach on one to know for sure but i thought it was around 6k on the factory tach i saw.. I also think the cam in the 2.3t moves the power higher up than in a n/a 2.3l but i don't have a whole lot of experience with these four bangers.

Let us know how it goes I am curious to know. I also think you should be fine with that carb.
