I'm changing the clutch and master/slave cylinders on my 86 Ranger 4-cyl 5 speed. I've unbolted everything and even pulled the transmission away from the engine. It was going well until I couldn't get the transmission down and onto the floor. There isn't enough room to pull it back - it sticks on the top on the "floor" of the hump, and on the bottom with the #1 Cross Member (suspension).

What's the "trick" to getting it out - anybody? Thanks!

Your body mounts have "settled"

If you jack against the body and slip a block of wood between the cab & frame you'll gain the small ammount of space that you really need.

Usually 4cyl rangers aren't a big problem this way...

Pulling transmission

Yes, the shifter was also unbolted and pulled out of the way. The problem seems to be clearly one of the tranny not being able to slip out. Pulled away fine, but cannot drop it.

I'll look at how much flex I can get by jacking up the cab off the frame and see if I get any real additional space - good suggestion!

rotate it to the passenger side and pull the tail to the drivers side
good luck

Well...that "twist" makes sense! I gave up earlier tonight and unbolted the bell housing and then pulled the two pieces out. Thanks for all of the help!
