Can't go into gear sitting still

What is worse is I pushed in on the line and was working the tool on the fitting, pushed so hard on tool it started to bend and the metal ring it rests on while using it was beginning to break. I hope the engineer who designed this had to work on a few thousand of them. I am not inexperienced, I have rebuilt totals, pulled several motors and transmissions. Just a bad design. I ruined my clip and they don't sell them new.

Will might want to contact Perfection transmissions. They have a new style of slave cylinder that uses a clip that is easy to remove. http://www.perfectionclutch.com/index.htm

They might have the clip you need. Other wise you will have to run to the Junk Yard and pick pull you one.

just for the head scratch. is the hard to shift in all gears or pairings? all gears or trying to creap with cletch fully depressed /cluch adjustment. first and third or second and forth to me sugest worn sincros.

After replacing master and slave it is not trying to creep forward anymore, just doesn't want to go into gear easy either. Goes into gear great when engine is not running. I need to pull the little cover and verify for sure that the release isn't 5/16 like it should be. I know the guy didn't correctly bleed the master though.

Spin the drive shaft

I bleed my system again last night. It now shifts ok but first is sometimes hard. I had to let the reservoir run out three times. I have the travel of 1/4 to 1/2 inch on the clutch. But the key to finding the problem was spinning the drive shaft. I had my Son engage the clutch with me under the truck. I turned the drive shaft and could hear the clutch pad on the fly wheel. Was just enough to not move the truck but enough that it won't let you put it into gear. Take the inspection cover off and you'll be able to see and hear it. Tricky little system. Now if mine starts to get hard again I would bet I have a bad slave. It doesn't leak. But if I have a cylinder that is blowing by fluid and causing air. Its' going to get hard again. Just a theory.

That's a really good point you make about the driveshaft, I'm prob. going to skip grouse hunting this weekend and take a look at it. Thanks for all of the good ideas, keep em coming, maybe they can sticky this if it gets enough good info.

Well, I tried again yesterday to bleed the system. I took the inspection cover off and I am barely getting 1/4 inch of release. I still failed to get the line to release because my plastic clip decided to buckle so I put a rubber line on the bleeder and let it fill up with fluid and ran it up the firewall and into the reservoir. I cycled the fluid and lots of air came out. I closed the bleeder after this and now it is worse. I am just going to call the transmission shop and see if they will take a look at it. I give up.

I posted earlier on this thread and have been following and have to ask have you or do you know if the flywheel has been resurfaced? I ask because you need to shim the flywheel back out to compensate for the material they removed. If it took .060 to clean up flywheel then you need to shim out flywheel .060. As there is no adjustment on the factory set up to accomplish this. Just a thought.

Well, I know this thread has been dead a while. I took the truck to a mechanic and he bled it out. It goes into gear sitting still now but has trouble after driving it until it warms up. What else could it be, I haven't measured the clutch release but would it be a good idea to change the fluid, its been about 80k miles since it was last changed?

Forgot to mention, although I told the mechanic to put in a new pilot bearing, the last mechanic to look at it asked me if I had changed the pilot. What are the chances of it being the pilot bearing? What are the chances of putting a new one in incorrectly?

Drove the truck about 150 miles today and the more I drove it the better it got. Everything seems good now, I guess it just had a little air left in the master being stubborn.
