can someone tell me what this is for please?

okay so i have a 93 ranger 4.0 4x4, i am in the process of swapping the a4ld out for the m5od. on the transfer case from my auto there was a hole in the back with a 2 wire sensor with a magnetic tip that went in the hole. now with the transfer case i got off the same truck with the m5od there isnt a hole for it. first off what is this sensor? and second do i need it? ill post up a pic. thank you for your time!

If so it's the position sensor for the 4-hi/4-low lights.

i think green and black wire. any reason why the other tcase i got doesnt have a spot for it?

Its a shaft speed sensor. It lets the shift computer know when the front shaft is turning at the same speed as the rear shaft. Its part of the shift on the fly system.

My best guess would be no, but it will only shift into 4wd when you are stopped.... But it's just a guess. Let us know how it works out.
