I've recently ran into a wiring problem of some sort and am trying to locate a short or grounding problem somewhere in my harness. Upon looking under the hood I dicovered that this entire chassis grounding strap is missing.

I have'nt had time to really start checking my wiring harness with my voltometer yet so I'm starting with the very basic visual stuff. If I have to I'm considering throwing the 2.5 harness in that came with the motor I just swapped because I checked that out last night and all the sensors at least has continuity. It looks better then the one in my Ranger as well.

Can someone go take a look see real quick and let me know where this is grounded at PLEASE??? Thanks.

Here is mine, the other end is grounded to the back of the head:

yea, it should ground on the back of the head, take a look at your old engine, it may still be attached to it from being ripped out when the engine was removed without disconnecting it hehehe.

You're a dog buddy. J/K

Yeah, I'll have to take a look see because I'm having some sort of electrical mishap right now. Actually that ground has been off of my truck for a loooooong time but I'm desperately looking for a answer right now. Later.

reattach the ground as close as possible to original location, but that really just balances teh grounds. the more you have the better so put 2-3 there. If you having elecrical probs, post the prob, maybe its not the ground and we can give you a hand...

I did post the problem but noone responded or had any information about it I guess.

I just did an engine swap over last weekend and even before the swap began I was getting an error code P0340 (cam sensor circuit malfunction). Even after the swap with a new sensor and different engine the code still came up. I ended up taking it to a shop and left it there for a day because the guy told me for $75.00 he could tell me what was wrong with my Ranger.

Well, to make a long story short I ended up gettting pissed off at the guy because he told me I had a short or grounding problem somehwere in the wiring circuit and that he would need an additional 3-4 hours time at $75.00 an hour.

THEN......I ended up reading online that faulty alternator diodes can send stray AC current through the wiring and set this code off. I had a bad misfire problem throughout the entire driving range as well. Even at idle! I swapped out the alternator and the misfiring problem went away while driving but it's still there at idle a little, and the code came back on the next day. I just reset the code two days ago at AutoZone and so far it's been off.

There's still something not right so I'm checking all grounds first and moving on from there. I mean I recharged my A/C system and for some reason the engine rpm's will not increase when the air kicks in. The IAC is'nt even working properly. I need help.

That strap bolts to one of the lower intake manifold "stud bolts". Sould be the bottom one towards the rear.

Ok, thanks. I believe you're right. It's on a bolt that has a stud extended out in order to bolt it onto right?

This is a ground cable right?

EDIT: I'm starting to believe there's a problem within my wiring harness. Either that or the PCM. I've got a good harness, so if I can't figure this out by the weekend I'll be swapping it out.

Yup.

As far as the harness or PCM, I wouldn't hink that was it, but ya never know.

You don't think frayed wires or a faulty PCM would cause electrical problems but you never know?

I know the wire going into the cam sensor was frayed and the whole wiring harness itself looks pretty beat compared to the one lying in my garage floor. Plus.........today I was reading in this forum or another that one was having a problem with their idle and after checking the wiring harness the wire (blue & white?) that went to the IAC was completely open.

After running a new wire the truck ran like new again, or so he said. Either way, it's a problem in my wiring somewhere and I need to find it.
