We wouldn't HAVE to...

Supposedly we could fit a 35 with just removing the crash bars. 4.46 gear is better than what most RBV's running 35's are running not considering the 300hp powerplant with ten gears.

But I kinda like the go-anywhere buggy that crowds 25mpg and cruises comfortably at 85mph... (not at the same time though lol)

These are the types of thoughts that take me a week to have now, rather than the 2 days it would have taken 30 years ago.

I was doing a tape measure alignment on the '05 Ranger today and suddenly this thread surfaced in the brain bucket again... Since we're mandating tire compounds now... don't we need to be mandating alignments as well? I'm not a rubber particle scientist but I'm going to guess that a super hard compound with a terrible alignment is going to create as much garbage as a soft compound with a great alignment.

I did read the legislative proposal but I don't recall seeing that.

P.S. in case the sarcasm wasn't obvious, I am NOT advocating gov't mandated alignments. I think it's a valid question though.

It’s a valid point though. Bad alignment, worn suspension components, wheel bearings, it all plays a part in how a tire wears. Even tire pressure and balance. Certain suspension designs are notorious for wearing tires even in perfect mechanical condition.

If they really, truly cared about the environment, this isn’t the sorts of things you do. It’s also nothing that a free society should be trying to regulate.

If i drop 800 to 1200 bucks on a set of new tires, i will spend another 100 or 120 for an alignment. it does not take long for a badly aligned car to chew up a tire. Also, a few tire shops here in the Indy area will give your car a free alignment with the purchase of 4 tires. even if you end up having to replace some suspension components, that money is well ahead to keeping your tires lasting a few years.

Also, rotate them every other oil change...

One of the better tireshops in the area has a deal on alignments that if you pay the 120 bucks for the alignment they will warranty it for a year. Hit a chuckhole and knock something out? free realignment after you get the parts replaced.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti - alignment. On the contrary, I want my tires to last as long as possible - because I'm cheap. I just think we're getting into the weeds a bit as to what's going to save the planet.

We could also start policing coefficient of drag... Oops, I'm giving them ideas again.

My state charges EV owners $500 to move here. They charge $150 for ICEV owners. It must still be cheaper than California, because now I see the EV's EVERYWHERE.
