What the heck is the bullet shaped gadget on the back of the engine? I have no earthly idea what that thing is. 1994 XLT with the 4.0L, has device on the top of the engine, passenger's side, back near the firewall. It is about 8 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. Has a bullet shape on each end. It has a tiny plastic capillary tube going to the rear that has broken off. Yes, it looks exactly like what you would imagine it might be... :-) I would appreciate any insight. I'll try to post a picture if no one immediately knows the answer.

Thanks!

That's the Vacuum reservoir should be mounted on top of blower/heater box
Not used for much on the 1994 4.0l
Vent controls are all cable operated

Usually used for EGR systems but 1994 4.0l shouldn't have one, unless Calif. vehicle, might be used for EVAP but that was Ported Vacuum until 1995

Welcome to TRS

Yes, it's on top of the evaporator housing.
It's a vacuum reservoir for the vacuum-operated fresh-air / recirculated-air door for the climate control system. Those thin plastic lines are well-known to get brittle and break.

O'Reilly's, Napa, Advance Auto, etc. should have replacement line available.
