My son has a 1989 Jeep cherokee and he thinks that his Jeep can walk all over just about anything else out there. Any opinions out there? Is a Jeep 4x4 system that much better then a Ford Bronco/Ranger?:icon_confused:

Suspension stock for stock is better on the Jeep IMO. However, I went everywhere in my stock height BII on 33's that a 96 Grand with 2" lift and 31's did.

i've owned cherokees,b2s and rangers.while i was actually impressed with the cherokee,i'd never trade a b2 in for one.i just wish the b2 came with a better front axle than the 28,though a 35 swap is a lunchbreak sort of job.

i think the best would be a B2 with jeep parts and ford parts mixed up to get the best o both

Well of course it can...
He said so.:D
The reality is that many vehicles set up properly can do very well.
It come down to so many factors that it is only 1 individual vehicle vs. another.
I have seen Suzukis that could do incredible things off-road.
It all depend on what has been done to each individual vehicle.

While I haven't had any seat time in a B2, I have to say the Jeep owns it. I have had 6 Cherokees in the last 2 years, and there really isn't much that will stop them. This is my opinion, of course. There may be B2 guys that will disagree, but as stated above, it really depends on what's done to the vehicle.

i dont know if you realized it or not but this is a ranger forum.

asking if we think that a rbv is better than a jeeper is like asking a crack head if he wants some crack. :icon_hornsup:

i've always believed that it is more HOW you drive than WHAT you drive.
but that's just me.

I think it has alot to do with the wingnut behind the wheel. My stock 73 bronco with cooper weathermaster tires could go just about anywhere any jeep could go. I prefer tall skinny tires for stump jumping you get more lbs per square inch on the tread for traction. If you add weight in the bed of your truck to get traction on icy roads it works the same in mud. The only advantage the cherokee has is weight. With big tires add about 200 lbs to the front and 300 to the rear bumpers and your adding traction.

na, its alot more driver then u would think, ive got friends who if i had the money into one of my rigs that they spent, id be done lol, but they cant wheel there way out of a paper bag, when u can hop in someones truck and wheel it hundreds of times better, u wonder if they should have a truck lol

and it is all about how much mercy the loose nut behind the wheel has for his vehicle

me....its no mercy, if i blow it up i did it doing what i wanted it todo

i'm taking a b2 with ex's drivetrain and gonna have a cherokee front axle.. lol

the main thing the cherokee has is the stock solid axle, other than that... i say its driver, now when you get into aftermarket- the jeep wins b/c there is so much support for it.. but think about it.... jeep guys us OUR 8.8 in their yj's, tj's, and xj's...

My 97 Cherokee had a V8, 9 inch rear, solid front axles, 37 inch KO tires and it was a four door. I had two BII's with the V6 that were well built that could never keep up with the Jeep. That Jeep went anywhere I pointed it!! The BII's were great but not that great. I had to put more in the BII's then I did in the Jeep to perform the way I wanted them to. Al of them were daily drivers as well.
I would buy my 97 Cherokee back again if I found it in the super shape it was when I sold it 5 years ago. I sold my Jeep and a BII to buy a few more acres of property that was next to my property and I could not resit the deal the owner gave me for the property.

This is my 02 Jeep and it is a 4wd and has 74,000 miles on it. I take it out at least twice a month on the trails and it is really super nice!!!! Not for sale!!!!!

Sounds like it wasn't much of a Jeep anymore...

The reality is, the BII and the Cherokee both have a system that drives one back wheel, and one front wheel. Determining which one is better off road will come down to what tires they have. Sure, one has a longer wheel base than the other, but that is beside the point because the situation that would arise to indicate which is better varies.

Stock vs Stock, there isn't much difference between the two in off road ability..
