Center console armrest latch fix
We just purchased a 2003 Mazda B3000 with a fold down center console (with cup holder) with a missing lid latch. I came to this forum for fix ideas, and was intrigued by magnet ideas.
So, off to Home Depot, I found cabinet latches. I chose a magnetic latch with 2 side by side magnets and 2 metal plates with a hole in each. At only $1.79, I decided to buy a spare as well (just in case the first one breaks someday).
There were 2 plastic pieces screwed into the armrest lid, leftover from the broken latch, so I unscrewed them and used the same screws to attach the 2 metal plates side by side onto the lid. I screwed the magnetic side of the latch to the INSIDE of the console below the metal plates and they lined up perfectly. Now we will be able to raise the console if we wish to use the center of the 60/40 bench without the contents of the console falling behind the seat! Sure beats the $25 price for a used plastic latch on eBay that would probably break quickly!
