Broke the Tab on the Middle Console Lock...

well I made a whole new cover for mine made of 1/4'' alum. and covered it with High dense foam. but for my latch I took a metal dowl thread one end and made a notch in the other. then all you have to do it tap the lid for the now threaded dowel.

sorry I don't have any pics from when I built it.
I started with a plate of alum. found a cheap piece that I was not going ot bend or break when my Mastiff walks on it. getting in the truck.
I then took the plate and laid it down on the console to get the proper shape. cut it to where I liked it.
I then had to bend the hinge flat to and marked the whole to drill on the plate. did this a few times till I found the postion that would alow it to open all the way with no interferance.
After getting the hinge and plate in postion that I was happy with I drilled a hole where the latch section is and taped it. I then took a Dowl of alum. and notched it to fit in the latch. (not very pretty but it works) but at this point the lid had a 1/4inch jab between the lid and console and in AZ the alum. lid gets hot as hell. So I took the 4 sheets of High dense foam and glued them together with 3m spry adhesive then glued them to the top of the plate. trimming the foam to the shape I like on the edges and from there I bulit up the foam along the bottom of the plate to close the gap. I then wrapped the finished lid in a heavy duty semi waterproof canvas.

05 Civic Seat Replacement?

Jon R,

Is it possible to replace seats easily like you have discussed here? How does it work, and what does that do for your vision in re: to seeing over the dash?

my wife occassionaly will drive, and she is shorter than most, so she has to sit on a cushion to view over the dash.

I hate that center console, and I believe either someone rigged it before me, or it has the opposite problem to everyone else here, because, I have yet to open it. The lid is definitely broken, but it's broken shut, I think.

I made a new lid with plywood and used a carrage bolt through the lid. Put a locking nut on the end and it catches the latching mech. Works good for me and it was with stuff I had laying around.

Sent this fella a PM hoping he'll get back with me/us to explain this to us. I've got a good idea, but will wait until we can hear back from him

Hi
Take the cap and clip the part on the cap that clips to your pocket about 2 , 3rds down so there is a bit of a nub left. put the cap in the hole where the original was, upside down so the nub part is facing down. I put a small screw in the part that goes up in the lid to keep it from falling out. I did this about 6 or 7 years ago and it still works fine to this day. Opens and closes like it should. I will try and get some pics, but I dont know how to upload them here, so if you need the pics shoot me an email and I will try to get them for you.
Mike
pics are in my album

Got some pics for you guys. Took them from ranger 93's album. Interesting fix. I might try that tomorrow when it isn't raining outside. And plus I think this should be submitted to the Tech Library.

I know the nub was cut, but was the cap kept the normal length, or shortened?

I used the magnet fix, but did it a little differently by just using 2 magnets because I found that there wasn't a strong enough hold with any of the screws I had lying around.

These are the magnets I selected: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00269N68Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just used regular super/crazy glue. It holds like a champ for this. I don't recommend tape or anything that covers the magnets at all because these magnets are very strong and will pull the tape off. After mounting the bottom magnet, stack 2 more magnets on top of it (with plastic spacers in between) to give it some height. Then, put some glue on the magnet on top of the stack, close the lid and just rest your arm on it for a couple minutes until the glue dries. I found that this was the easiest way to make sure the bottom magnet and the one on the lid were perfectly aligned. If the two magnets don't hold well enough for you, just add another to one of the already-mounted magnets. No need to glue it. That's what I did when I found that the lid came open when the arm-rest was up. Now, with 3 magnets, the lid holds shut nice and tight.

Thanks to seth556 for showing us this method. I inherited my Ranger and was searching for a fix and came across this forum.

I tried the sharpie lid first but couldn't get it to work right. -.-
