I had ordered Dynamic Friction Ultimate Duty brake pads for my 1986 4x4 and went to put them on today, only to find out the little squares that keep the pad from sliding are in the wrong place. I thought about welding some metal in the proper spots, but that was for a hot second before I said no.

As a result, I’m in the market for equivalent/same class brake pads and I want to hear recommendations for products to consider. Dust does not concern me.

I've used Wagner ThermQuiet ceramic pads on a variety of vehicles including my '02 Ranger. So far I'm pleased.

My gotos are POWERSTOP but if I needed more stopping I would throw the extra couple pennies to EBC (GREEN would take care of my needs).

My stock pads could use an upgrade as well.

+1 on the powerstops

Napa Silent Guard.

Used them on a few cars and trucks, love 'em.

The fit and finish is much better then the ultra cheap pads I've used in the past. They come with all the bits and bobs you don't get with the cheap ones either.

They are very quiet. They have a little Kevlar packer pad on outside of the metal up against the piston.

How about Akebono? Has anyone used their pads?

Frankly, I wasn’t the one who put the brakes on the last time and as such wasn’t aware that there were any differences in hardware. The type I received seems to have been used for every year besides 1986 from what I can tell. They’ll fit and not interfere with anything, it’s just that, as can be seen, the mounting squares (sorry if there’s a proper name) are farther apart and allow the pad to slide.

86 was an orphan year for brake parts. Until your post I'd completely forgotten that fact.
