I was at the wrecking yard yesterday, and they just unloaded another totalled ranger. Body is damaged everywhere from rolling down a hill. Same engine and year as Mine, 97. I got the hood to open after about half an hour, and to my surprise, Find a Perfectly good K&N Cold Air Intake. I bought It for $50 because the owner of the yard likes me since Ive been all over the yard the last week or so, buying random stuff. SO I GOT A GOOD DEAL!!!
I didnt put it on yet. I'm going to get a new filter, and blow it clean with a few air compressor blasts, then give it a try! Just thought I'd brag a bit, as my luck has been headed on the up and up for the first time in a long time:icon_thumby:

sorry gotta ask if you have the filter why not just clean it and reoil it instead of buying another filter, excellent find though, last I looked new a cai was about 250 or more

Got a few reasons for getting a new filter actually:
#1. Met the guy that owned the truck, he didnt seem like the guy that was mentally capable of cleaning an apple.
#2. The filter was covered in something. Some form of Mud/silt/water I couldnt Identify.
And #3. The Filter was slightly separated because of the way the hood bent inward.

ah makes sense then, I just had the basic k&n filter on my 97 when I had it, I put single in dual out flowmaster on it to, sound good at idle and cruising but goofy as hell when accelerating, but the cai was something I almost got, good luck with it though, to bad the cone shaped replacement K&N for the 2.3 can't work on the CAI

wish i could find something like that lucky

Well, Ive got her clean as a whistle inside and out, just got to get money from the bank tomorrow for the filter. I'm also getting a new set of summer tires tomorrow.(I know december is an odd time to get summer tires, but I want to get them while I can positively afford them)

good deal. My friend did the same thing when he had a '04 GTO...paid the same price too lol. This is the only way I'd buy a K&N CAI for anything, they're just not worth the $250.

What junk yard did you go to? R&J?

They got a boat load of gen 1's, and a few gen2's, along with a few explorers. Never do see any other Rangers, other then I think a gen4 with a flairside.

That one across the street has a few Rangers too.

If you ever see a Dodge in one of those yards, let me know. I need a front bumper really bad, as well as dash trim. The one here in C. town has a bunch of Dodges, but they must not want to sell the parts that bad with the prices they ask.

I wouldn't put one on any of my vehicles, even if somebody paid me to put it on! :D:D

There is no advantage to one (other than making noise), and there is a potential for contaminating the MAF sensor, as well as gumming up the IAC valve, and throttle body from the dirt & oil they pass.

:icon_rofl: I was wondering when you would chime in.

IMO, I'd do it if I was paid to do so, but the effort if it were free wouldn't be worth my time.

But, this is what the OP wants to do, so more power to him. He might learn something at the very least..

Pete

Actually i got it at Schwartzenberger wrecking. Usually their prices are BS but lately Ive gotten some sweet deals. I have it on now btw. I noticed a tiny tiny bit of better throttle response at very low rpm's, but that may just seem like it because of the sound and Placebo affect, but it's mainly sound. It sounds pretty sweet inside the cab. Little bit throatier.

That the one next to Kalispell Toyota?

They are rediculous on prices. They wanted $100 for a 1995 Dodge CD player. Screw that! I'll stick with my massive hole in my dash with a tiny ass CD player in it.

yep, thats the one. Yes, that is a typical price they will try to charge too! I never thought I'd go to them for anything, but they've taken care of me pretty decently. Schwarzenberger likes me too so that helps:icon_thumby:
