Sadly enough to say mine is doing it again! Im gonna try the tps sensor next I guess and go from there.

Rev, have you checked your TPS? It also controls air/fuel mixture and may be faulty. Another of your posts said tune up done around 2k ago. Has this problem been since then or before tune up even? New plugs and wires, have you double checked to make sure your firing order is correct?

How do you check your TPS? Do you clean it?

Throughout testing, I kept getting an error, "User error, wide open throttle not detected" even though I floored it during the test. I replaced the TPS and the connector (soldered and taped each connection) from the wiring harness. Still get the same error.

Whoopie!! Mine's fixed - bad coolant temp sensor. Made it idle really high, hard to start etc. I really appreciate all the info. I know sometimes you experts have to repeat yourselves sometimes (can you say IMenriched -ground wires) - but thanks again for the help.

How did you finally discover this was the issue?

Hey Rev - I was looking at another thread and saw what the resistance of the sensor should be. There's charts on fordfuelinjection.com. I ohmed mine out and it was like 80 MOhms cold. Bought a new sensor for $13, a 1" combination wrench for $17 and was back in business. I wasn't blowing black smoke or anything, but it sounds a lot like your issues otherwise. Make sure you are checking the right sensor though - it has two pins and is screwed in just over the thermostat. There's another single pin sensor for the temperature gauge.
