Recently bought an 09 Sport 2RWD with 5spd. Vancouver winters aren't the worst but still need a good set of snow tires for the upcoming winter. any advice?

Cooper/ Dean wintercat SST's hands down.

yeah its gotta cut through to the hardpack or the asphalt its good to think skinny skinny

I think Bridgestone Blizzaks are the shiznit but those Coopers look like they'd work.
I have Blizzaks for my wife's Taurus and it goes as good in snow as my 4x4 and stops better.

So, strvger, I live in Michigan north of Detroit and Belle Tire has also recommended the Toyo Open Country A/T. Are you running those year-round then? I'm guessing you are. Did you find they made a big difference in the winter over the original equipment? I thought what Ford sold it with was just awful and I have lucked out making it through 6 Michigan winters with this truck without having an A/T tire, but I really want to be ready this year as it is my only vehicle right now!

I bought a set of 265/75r15's in the Cooper SST's before last winter for my ranger and had zero problems getting around with 2+ feet of snow on the roads (we had a huge amount of snow fall last winter) in 2wd. Absolutly loved them. I recommend them to anyone looking for a winter truck tire.

This is the conclusion from a test done in the August 2009 Four Wheeler on snow and ice tire testing. "So when it's deep snow, lower the pressure and use the widest tire you can run, but on the ice, keep the pressure high and consider a bit narrower tire."
I think your best bet is any one of the narrow tires listed by the others for winter driving.:icon_thumby:

use them year round. they improved the handling over the stock tires about a 1,000%!! they have stiffer side walls but i really prefer a more firm handling/riding vehicle. hate feeling mushy on wet or slick roads! the road noise on the Toyo's were way less than the originals, too. very happy with the Toyo's for sure. :icon_thumby:

Thats where I picked up my Toyo Open Country A/Ts for the Jimmy when I still lived in Windsor. The Jimmy was up here in Edmonton for part of the winter and they served me well, no real issues getting around. I haven't heard anything negative about the Cooper SST's with good reviews but I'm sure other members can give you the truth about what works and what doesn't in the ice and snow.

I have Cooper Weather-master S/T 2's and they are very good.

I'm rolling on Michelin LTX M/S that were great last winter, was able to stay in 2WD more often than when it had the stock Wranglers.I used to be a Wrangler guy,but this set of Michelins has probably converted me.

Get the coopers! you won't be dissappointed I am getting another set for my new ranger I get awesome discounts at my shop! The toyo A/T's are pretty good too, Get them siped it will help a ton... you could also drill and stud them but then they would be winter only tires...
