Bent leafsprings

Come to find both my rear leafsprings are bent, is it an issue? Would this affect the way the truck handles or should I replace them? I'd think it would change the way the rear articulates....

They've definitely been over loaded. How much it would really affect ride, I don't know. Did you have any suspicion that something was wrong back there?

I had a similar set, they now reside in my scrap pile.

Not worth the risk if something broke. Can't say on handling as I fixed other issues while I was there.

The truck hasn't been handling terribly weird but I bought it that way so I don't have a whole lot to compare to, sounds like a 4 link is in my future after all... Anyone know of one which would tailored to street use?

Rockauto has some decent springs. If tou haul alot buy a higher rated spring. Also replace your shocks while you are taking it part.

that electronic anti rust gizmo must have worked. the bed seam and support rails look factory fresh.

Do they even make a 4 link for a ranger? Looks like you have the 1750 pound springs. They can be bought new for a few hundred... They don't make any springs bigger than the ones you got now IIRC. Frame does look nice and clean which is uncommon for rangers over 10 years old lol.

Call your local spring shop, inquire what the cost will be to 1. load them into a spring rate tester to see if they are worth saving & have them re-arced ..(because as stated someone back up the road overloaded them) vs. 2. purchasing a new set.

Having now looked harder into the 4 link I've decided the best route will be to stick with leafs, does anyone know what the stock fender heights are front and rear? I'm looking at possibly lowering the truck a bit while I install a new set but would like to know how far off I am currently....

How thick are the blocks between your springs and axle?

That's a good question, they look to be about 3 inches, they're the factory blocks

Somewhere apparently a little newer than your truck (not by much) the factory blocks about got cut in half. Most go the other way, you might be able to find a set of the later model ones, would probably about make the truck level.
