My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
So i was doing some digging the other day and i found an old (very old) car battery buried in the ground.

Ive lived there since 2011 and this battery is atleast 30+ years old, half the case is gone, so you can see the lead plates, any liquid is long gone.

I thought about just tossing it in my can for the trash guy, but i dont wanna get busted....and the shape its in i doubt any parts stores are gonna take it.

Ideas?

I’d take it apart. Rinse everything good with water. Keep the lead and toss the rest in household trash.

The transfer station (county dump and recycling facility) in my area takes car batteries. I saw batteries that look like they exploded on top of the pile.

Yeah, I'm with Eric, if there's no acid left then it's just lead and plastic left, some people will pay $1/lb for scrap lead anymore...

Really? DIdnt know lead was worth anything really

It wasn't worth squat a long time ago but since it's gotten a lot of flack over the last couple decades it's more expensive... shotgun shot used to be $25 for 25 pounds now it's like $50 if you can find it, I've been to auctions and seen 5 gallon buckets of scrap lead sell for over $1/lb... heck, break it up put it in a little bucket with weight and on craigslist... if you're bored enough that is...
