well all you pros. my truck was running fine, then i put 12 bucks worth of gas in it and running down the hiway it starts cutting out. i pulled over, made sure my airfilter and everything were ok. (sucked some water in the intake a few weeks ago and it did the same thing but i got that fixed) anyway i take off and i really get on it, but it is really sluggish and at around 3grand it just stops and starts cutting out. same way thorouh all the gears. really cuts out in overdrive. im thinking bad gas or a clogged fuel filter. i bought some cheap injector cleaner and put a little in and still no changes. what do you all think?

possibly bad injectors? I would change the fuel filter first its cheap and easy.

I agree I'd start with the filter then check out the injectors.....I had the same problem in my tacoma and it ended up being an injector

I would check the pump inside the tank. Turn your key to on (not started), and listen for the pump to come on. If you don't hear it, then its probably bad. This happened to me and that is what it was. If it is bad then I would suggest replacing the whole sending unit. Its almost the same price.

howmuch do injectors cost lol? sound more than the trucks worth.

ok heres a better question? how do i find out if my injectors out or going out?

Where did you buy gas at that you suspect it is bad? Did you almost run the tank dry? If so it could be that you sucked up some gunk into the filter which would means try replacing the filter. What I would do is to put some drygas into the tank and run the tank almost dry then change the filter filler up and see if that helps.

Injectors cost about $100/each. They will either work or not. Like others have said, just replace your fuel filter. It is cheap insurance. If the problem is still acting up you will have to do an ohm test.

Do you have a CEL on? If so, it might give you a misfire code and some place to start.

I had a fuel injector go bad a few months ago. Basically you have to take off the intake plenum to get to the injectors. You can test them without takeing them out. All you need is an OHM tester. Each injector should be between 11-18 ohms. All of mine read a solid 15 ohms. The bad one read 5 ohms. So I went to the stealership and got one for $100.

If all the injectors are within spec, you may have to have them cleaned. If you call up your local shop, they can clean them and you can save a lot of money if you bring them in seperatly. They should be able to provide a graph or show you the spray pattern. Fuel injectors are really simple so its pretty hard for them to just go bad. But it has happened to me so its not impossible. BTW I have the 4.0.

yea i talked to my neighbor whos a mechanic and he said its probally just bad gas or the fuel filter. i ran it out of gas last night, and he said that its really hard on the fuel pump, and it might of fried it. i put 20 in new gas and it still does it. this payday im going to put new plugs in it a new air filter and a new fuel filter. as soon as june 5 rolls around though im selling the truck.

dont know if this will help or not but i can stick a finger in the exhaust pipe and it will come out blacker than night.

well guys i fixed it. turns out the airfilter was plugged all to hell so i put a new one in and it will run like a champ now

It's always nice when it's a cheap easy fix!

Be sure to never run a fuel injected vehicle out of gas though. The gas in the tank cools the pump. You can burn the pump out or really strain it if it's sucking air and fuel.

why do people believe that in a tank with the pickup permanantly mounted in the bottom of the tank that "running it almost dry" will "suck up crap" from the bottom?

Why would that crap not get sucked up first out of a full tank?
Answer: It would.

The crap gets sucked up immediatly as soon as it settles to the bottom of the tank.

And BTW, on fuel filters, it can be 95% clogged and you'd never know,
it's that last 5% that leaves the engine caughing and choking... and
then you KNOW!

If you suspect "bad gas" or a clogged filter replace it before thinking about anything else or making a post asking.

If you feel pressure in your abdomen do you ask in a post
"do you think I need to urinate? what else could it be?"
