You ever had one of those days you should have just stayed in bed. I was passing a transport and the pic below happened. Doing 140km (90mph) Not sure what other damage happened. It was running fine when i shut it off other than the death rattle. Not looking forward to the coming bill for repair :( I changed the tensoners about 6 weeks ago and yes I use OEM from the dealer but I guess at 275,000 km was to little to late IMG_3959[1].JPG

At that speed there is gonna be a bunch of damage... at least it's what I've seen in my travels.

It's gonna be spendy.

Last one I saw had a hole through a piston...one trashed cylinder head. They ended up doing a crate engine.

Pull a couple plugs on that side if you have a bore scope. The oil pan comes off really easy... drain oil... drop pan and see what's in there.

For those who've not experienced this V6~4.0L~SOHC TimingGuide failure at speed, can you describe the drivers sound+feel?
Your at least looking at replacing that front left TimingGuide+Tensioner & the ValveCover; does NOT require pulling engine.
But considering miles, I'd bite the bullet, pull the engine do a full rebuild or a new crate engine,
assuming you want to keep the vehicle out of the scrap yard.

the sound it was making was a clicking sound, like something was hitting the fan, it did not feel any different than it normally does
a full rebuild or crate motor is not something I can afford any time soon

Per @Uncle Gump,
a real chance of engine killing damage, but that it ran okay post event other than noise is a hopeful sign.
Considering your budget, hope you can get away with just that left TimingCassette+Tensioner+ValveCover repair.
Do need to pull the OilPan+OilPumpInletScreen to identify schrapnel & clean it out; that's just the cost of oil+gasket.
Do keep us updated on what you find & how this goes.

I missed the part where it still run normally...

if it did still run... you might be the luckiest person to ever own a Ranger.

I certainly wouldn't run it any more until you have a look see.

wow!! that is definitely a day ruiner.

of the two times i lost engine being synced while running, one just shut down on the highway and i towed it home and put a new belt (85 isuzu trooper 2 with 2.3 4 cylinder) because its a non-interference engine. the timing belt had stripped

the other one was idling in the driveway and we were loading the kids for saturday morning soccer games and i got in and put it in gear and heard what sounded like soda cans being crushed. bmws use interference engines and the straight six in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s was a timing belt. so it broke the rocker arms, bent the valves, and put little smiley marks into the tops of hte pistons.

Fordtekmakuloco did a multi video series on doing the timing chain guides and pulling the oil pan to clean out all the pieces. If nothing else, it will show you all that you are in for if you want to repair your existing engine.

Amazon sells the special tool kit for doing the job. From what I remember, the price wasn’t that bad for the kit, considering.

Regardless, the whole situation sucks and wish you God speed on whatever direction you decide to take.

Gump the only luck I have is bad luck. I had it towed to the dealer. No one else around here will touch a over head cam motor including my brother who runs the biggest non dealer garage here. I'm looking into a create engine for it

The Verdict is in oil full of metal motor is toasted

Looking into a new crate motor for it. Not cheap but cheaper than buying a new truck. I should know tomorrow

I'M going to stop at ford in the morning to see if they still have a motor.
With any luck I can keep this under 7 grand.
I still have a new front suspension sitting here IMG_3969[1].JPG I hate to see it go to waste
