Auto trans overheating

I have a Hughs Performance built e4od extra deep sump [I think it holds 2+extra quarts ] large cooler , just installed a temp gauge , pulling a long grade a while back the temp got up to 280* I got a little nervous but made it over the pass and it cooled down fairly quickly, normal cruising @60-65 the temp stays 150-160, is there something else I can do to help it stay cool without it running it too cool?
I am hauling around a 2000# slide in camper on a f-350 so it is working a little.

Shutting the AC down could help. Or looking into an even bigger aux cooler. I'd look for something the size of an AC condenser.

I don't think you are going to be able to run that trans too cold.

I don't run a/c ever, I only average 8.5 mpg as it is. I will GET the largest cooler I can afford...
Never ran hot to my knowledge till I heard of the earth getting warmer,

Is there a fan with your aux cooler? If not, I'd recommend getting a probe-controlled fan controller that goes onto the aux cooler and then a small fan.

Someone asked me today where I put the temp sender, on my e4od there is a plug right above the forward part of the pan in the case that was recommended. Which raises a question "generally" speaking , where would the "most" heat be generated? Maybe the sender is in the wrong place to be generally accurate..

Is there a better place?
