Auto to Manual Swap - Electronics & Wiring

Well, decided to finally bite the bullet after waffling around on other projects and get back to the wiring.

The GY-VT and BK-VT are your 4x4 low protection, so unless they are bridged, you will only have 2-high and 4-high. I didn't want to lose that protection and grenade my drivetrain on the highway, so I wired it to a switch I installed on the dash for some extra protection.

YE-VT and BN-YE are the reverse lights, which are easy enough to wire to the reverse switch on the manual.

Ordered the analog-digital adaptor so I can get a calibrated speedo back, as I've learned without a speed sensor input the truck starts to get really confused and will hang the RPMS, as well as throw some transmission shift scheduling codes.

Now onto those pesky solenoids.

Write from what you will take the signal to the converter

@Roert42 What size wattage did you use for these resistors? I'm finding that the ones I bought are woefully inadequate because of some miscalculations, the solenoids are operating at 14V and 24 ohms with a 50% overhead means I'll need a 25-30W capacitor with some very decent heat dissipation. The TCC solenoid requires nearly 50 watts, which at that point I'm thinking of finding a junked transmission and using the actual solenoid to plug into the harness.

All of the smaller ones are fine, most are 5V sensor circuits.

1W

I remember doing that math when I bought them. I don’t remember how I decided 1 watt would be fine.

None of them have exploded, but they are not wrapped up either, just hanging loose at the moment.

Huh. I am at 2 watts for my 24 ohm shift solenoid resistors, and after running the truck for 20 seconds to clear codes and confirm they were gone, they were very warm, borderline hot by the time I shut off the truck. The TCC solenoid being fine makes a little more sense, as it wouldn't be permanently powered, but even then with a resistor rated for x5 surge for 5 seconds I'm still looking at a static 10-12 watt requirement. Honestly I don't don't know why yours has worked so well and mine seems to be at the edge of oblivion.

I have not crawled under there to see how hot there were. Mostly just a proof of concept.

I need to figure out how to trick the TSS before I do anything too permanent.

I did a little research on the TSS. A resistor may work for a little bit, but the PCM will be looking for a variable output. Apparently it's not uncommon for people to build little TSS (or their equivalent sensor) emulators, doesn't seem like that bad of a project. Probably the route I'll be heading down shortly after I deal with these other codes.
