Auto to Manual Swap - Electronics & Wiring

Forescan can't access the PCM on these trucks except for key programming. You don't even have the option to connect to it when connecting to the truck.

However, you can access the Instrument Cluster Module, so it may be possible to change the VIN on the IC somehow.
I have 2003

I wrote the keys in the brains from the showdown and that's it

Everything works

Everything is fine

I do not have a 2003.

@button_pusher About the resistors. I used 1W

The resistors I installed in the shift solenoids looked fine. This may have been because they did not have a constant load on them, I can't be use.

The Resistor I installed in the TCC was burned up, but still working.

Let us know how the dakota digital worked out.

I ended up purchasing HP Tuners dongle and using it to modify the ECU program to work nice with the Manual. I was able to change the number of pulses per revolution for the OSS tone ring in the software to get the spedo to work.
Then I disabled the the DTCs related to the Automatic transmission.
Changed the rev limiter settings to 6250 for both neutral and drive, and a couple other things related to the auto.

Works well. I've been running it without the DTRS or any resistors plugged in.

- Clutch switch is wired to the neutral for the DTRS, and the wires for the cruise control.
- Reverse is wired to the switch on the trans
- OSS is wired in

That's all the wiring.

One note about the HP Tuners mod. You can't simply disable the Automatic transmission in the software. The software programs for the the manual and auto ECU have different software versions. The ECU for the manual doesn't have the info for the Auto and the AUTO ECU doesn't have the info for the Manual. If you disable the Automatic transmission, the truck will still run, but it will lose the function of the speedometer.

@Roert42

Was this the tuner?

The Dakota works, but I must have been mistaken about the RPM hanging being tied to the speedo, that seems to come from the lack of TSS input which was a frustrating discovery.

The Tuner sounds like the perfect way to go, but will the codes still pop up with an OBDII scanner? I just moved to a county with emissions testing and have to have no codes presented when I get inspected.

When you refer to clutch switch and cruise control wiring, is it just a disconnect for cruise control when the clutch is engaged? I don't remember any CC wiring in the DTRS.

@button_pusher

yes that's what I used. I've read that SCT Pro tuner software is the best for Fords (has the most support), but it also cost twice as much as the HPTuners.

The software is Free, but you need their proprietary dongle to be able to read and write the tune files. If you want to download the software I can email you a copy of my file to look at what changes are available..

There are multiple options when changing the DTC. DTC and MIL light, DTC and NO MIL light, NO DTC reported.
Auto to Manual Swap - Electronics & Wiring

(For all the admins out there. Anything emissions related or legally sensitive is locked out by HPTuners and cant be changed without special license. so no issues)

I have everything automatic transmission related set to not error reported and you will not receive a DTC when plugged in with a scanner, all checks show as ready when plugged into the PA state inspection computer.

With the automatic pedal assembly there was a plunger switch that mounted to the brake pedal, I cut the wires off that and wired them to one of the set of wires on the clutch pedal switch. Now when you press the clutch pedal or the brake the cruise will be disabled.

About the rev hang.
originally before any changes with the software, the rev would normally hand around 1200/1500 rpm until I came to a full stop. This was with or without the OSS hooked up.

When I initially changed all my software around my issue with the rev hang went away. I suspect it has something to do with the ecu "learning" after driving for a while.

Thanks! Ordered that thing instantly, I have been messing around with these resistors with mixed success for the TCC. Sounds like the path towards getting this thing buttoned up is finally paved.
