i got a 86 ranger with a 5 liter in it. and a aod was wondering how to adjust the kickdown cable. for not to high rpm shift and not enough to burn up tranny
Try loosening (backing off) the TV cable adjustment. a little and see what effect it has. From what I read, loosening it up will cause it to shift earlier.
Might be worth while to at least get a set of gauges to monitor the fluid pressure so that you're not adjusting it blindly.. An AOD will burn up fairly quickly if the kick down is not adjusted properly.
I was under the impression from your other post that you're not running EFI(?). I am not sure how well the stock gas pedal / kick down mechanism with work with the AOD since it was designed for an A4LD kick down (might not pull enough, or too much). I see a lot of people have resolved the issue by using a Lokar kick down cable and adjustable bracket that was made for this purpose.
