I'm getting around town about 15.5 miles to the gallon.

Has anyone found successful ways to increase their gas mileage?

I saw one post mention the velocity tuner air intake tornado making a dramatic difference. www.velocitytuner.com

I've read about adding about 2 ozs of Acetone to each 10 gallons of gas making a dramatic difference.

I can find many claims that these have worked on owner's vehicles and I can find some claims that they didn't work.

It seems it depends on the vehicle and possibly where you live.

Many of these devices have money back guarantees, I'm thinking of trying them one at a time and returning if there's no increase.

Please only give me replies with experiences with products/modifications.

Thanks

All Junk. Put that money in your gas tank.

i did. i run the iac manually and tweaked the map(temp convert back to map as its easier to do this with it) and timing.

best of 16 plus in factory parameters in a non factory application, as its a 302 roller gt40 stang setup in a lifted 4x4 application. its been further detuned with a truck cam and i may put a complete truck induction system and pcm in it before i swap it all out. i am thinking the actual truck system may put it to 17 plus and make it nice to drive.

i finally cracked 18 with it, but its close to wanting to crack a head or push a gasket as well, and has no power to pass unless i turn it all off. pain in the ass.

NOT RECOMMENDED but it worked for two days and got the same mpg in a 200 plus mile loop..:dunno:

The best thing I found for increasing mileage was a vacuum gauge. I had a little Toyota in the mid 70's that was getting about 20 mpg. I hung a 6" vacuum gauge from the ash tray right in my face. With that reminding me, mileage went up to 40+ mpg. After a couple weeks I could take it off and my mileage would stay up for a few months and then drift down again, until I put the gauge back on for a couple of weeks again.

How you drive will have more effect than most of the gimmiks.

Well with my cap on I was getting around 13 mpg, but since I have taken off the cap and put on the tonneau cover cover I am now getting about 16, I just did my oil, air filter, gas filter, and gas system treatment and I am going to switch to an electric fan. I will see how it did, if anything...

I have heard about the vacuum gauge, what do you hook it to? and how do you read it, I assume you want to keep the vacuum high?

Thanks for any help!

I get between 20-22 on EVERY tank with my 02 4.0 auto. I use synthetic fluids, keep the filters clean, tires aired up properly, have a performance programmer and keep it on the highest setting. I drive conservatively tho- no jack rabbit starts unless I need to get on the highway or out of someone's way. If I punch it to the floor just two or three times per tank it will drop noticeably.

The program requires premium gas, and cost $400, so if you do the math it probably doesn't save squat... but it runs damn good and it never falls below 20. Ever.

oh man i was getting ready to ask where do i get one of those magic programmers
iif it didnt require premium gas it would be different, but here premium is .10 more than regular

You hook it to manifold vacuum (you can tee a vacuum line if you need to, or use an unused nipple such as cruise control or automatic transmission). And you keep it as high as possible all the time.

The vacuum, more or less directly, tells you the rate at which your engine is consuming air (under the assumption that the intake temperature is constant, which it generally is). The fuel used is directly proportional to that, except with the throttle floored.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the info

Somebody locally is selling and installing hydrogen generators now. Local radio station's dj is trying it out and says it's working for him. They are somewhere around 500 a piece, plus intallation. I think he said rough estimate of 1500 to purchase and install 2 of them.

Also, seen this stuff today.....

Then somebody locally is also a con artist. The radio DJ is either in on it or he doesn't want to admit that he's a sucker. There is no easy, cheap, drop in solution that will increase your mileage while reducing harmful emissions.

16 oz of Acetone in fuel tank
HEET gas treatment
Turbonator
electric fuel pump
removed clutch cooling fan and installed a electric fan
Aerodynamic bug shield
Rear Cab spoiler
Air Gate tailgate replacement
Roll windows up when going faster than 60mph and using AC.
a 2" suspension drop
A fuel line magnet
Never use OD when below 65m.p.h.
Keep my truck washed and waxed.

Fuel alignment magnet ?you must know that is a gimmick in a half
thats almost as bad as the vortex air hog intake gimick

On my F-150 I do know going from 235/70-16 tires to 255/70-16 tires dinged my milage. It has 3.31 gears, and all but idles along at 1500 RPM at 55 mph, was a tad lower with my older tires and since it downshifted much less I am going to guess it is on the border of being overgeared now. But it looked utterly rediculous with those tiny tires, it blows my mind that Ford would make wheel wells big enough to fit 285-75-16 tires at stock height, and put really high gearing and tiny tires on the vast majority of the them.

Adding my exhaust made it downshift less on hills, but milage gains never really appeared, same goes for my intake mod. My grille guard hurt a little, but it wasn't as much as I previously thought. Right now it is averaging about 16-17 mpg hwy, was closer to 19 with the stock tires... actually everything was still stock at that point. I also dearly need to rotate my tires (probably this weekend), that will probably help a little too.

I do know for some reason my exhaust really hurt my around town milage.:D

The only way I have found to help my Ranger get better milage was to duraspark it, and now that it is finally in the double digits (barely) so I do by and large most of my driving with my F-150. It isn't a whole lot more economical (2-3mpg better), but a lot more enjoyable.

Sure did increase my mileage!

Drove slower (speed limit or 60mph tops) and accelerated a little slower.

went from about 240 Miles to a tank to usually 300-320 per tank.
