At first I didn't think my wife was going to owe, but I did her taxes and found she owes almost $800. The government took out less taxes so you the consumer would have more money in your checks to spend.

A friend of mine said everyone she's talked to is going to owe taxes this year. Just curious how many are going to owe that wouldn't normally owe anything?

i owed $2000 federal and $1000 state last year and the year before. I changed my W4 and this year didn't have any 1099-MISC or bonus income that wasn't withheld for, so I'm gonna break even on federal but still going to owe about $900 state.

These are just preliminary estimates, I don't have everything in yet. I don't have my 1098 from the mortgage lender and I haven't added in the student loan interest deduction. No matter what though, I'm going to owe, I just know the worst case scenario right now.

Last year was the first ever year I had to pay, and boy did I have to. Not even started to look at this years yet, haven't got all the paperwork in yet.

im gettin like 5300 back but two kids got me that
but on the good side now im lookin for a house woo hoo finally my own garage to work on my vehicles

I live alone, no kids....... low paying job.

I get back all I pay in, so I have enough for some new tires, or something. That's about it.
I used to work with a guy that got back 3,500 every year...... then he'd take all his kids to gander mountain and blow it on junk they didn't need, and he'd still be behind on his rent and light bill.

Since I am self employed, I have to send in estimates each quarter. I usually break even so will hopefully do so again this year.

Estimating around $3k returned. Still waiting on one more W2, then I need to get all of my pyrotechnic write-offs in order.

Nothing back, and nothing owed... unemployed for two years.

Filling out my tax form was about 37 seconds of writing zero's in everything.

here is why jim......

i started a thread on this in the tail gate and got flamed.

I knew something like that was gonna happen when I first heard about the tax credit.

I'm half of one of those married couples where both spouses work....so I may have ended up getting $400 back (to help pay for what I owe on state) instead of just breaking even.

I hate the IRS more and more every year. Its not that they take so much of my money (ok, well part of it), but that tax law is so ridiculous that many of us have to pay some trained expert to do our taxes. The withholding tables are so jacked up that my wife and I both claim 0 exemptions on our W-4, withhold extra money out of every paycheck and still come up short.

I'm getting about $300 back this year.

I'm self employed I get shafted every year
