This thing has all my music on it and its about the only way I listen to anything in the ranger. It doesn't want to turn on and I just hear clicking noise. Since they're a rip to get fixed I'm either going to break it for good or fix it myself somehow although breaking it looks more promising at this point. The problem is that its built like a brick s***house and I can't get it apart. Anyone know how? Oh and its an old ipod mini if that helps anyone.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I think this is where random discussions go?

if you hear the clicking noise the Hard drive is dead. commen problem with ipods they are POS. best bet is to go with something with flash memory. they dont have as much space on them but they are more reliable. I went through 3 ipods before I finally got a flash memory sansa video 8 gig and have had no problems at all. but yeah the clicking sound means your HD is dead.

Or scratched and cant find the file its lookin for. Kinda like when you turn a cd player on without a cd in it. The laser keeps adjusting and moving back and forth trying to detect the music

I have had my first gen. 30G Video since they came out. Completely full with just music. A lil under 7,000 songs. No problems yet.. My worry is the battery. It should be on its last few charges now..

Well thanks for the info. This was the result of me dropping it. I was kinda hoping it was something broken that I could just solder back together but if its the hd thats the end of it. I might just forget the mp3 players and go the xm route.

Yeah my first gen lasted the longest. the next one was a 80 gig video and lasted 3 months before the hd took a shit. the other 2 froze up and died.

I have a JVC MP3/HD/WMA/IPOD radio I just installed in my B2 and love it!

Nothing like radio without commercials for free!

you can send it my way lol my buddy fixes them for something to do an could prolly use the parts outta it.

I'll buy it for $20. Especially if it is an ipod mini.

if you go on ebay there are repair kits and instructions for those and they sell new hard drives pretty cheap to i had the first ipod them made and it still works perfect and i was not gentle with it, it looks like its been to hell and back twice

haven't had any probs with mine at 5th gen 30 gig video, did you try just resetting it by the way? just curious

Not sure if it works on ipods, but I've heard a good smack with your hand on a Creative Zen player will sometimes get the HD working again (something about the head getting jammed after it's dropped or something). Can't hurt it if it's hosed anyway...

If nothing else it will make you feel better :derisive:
