Alright..so I'm getting ready to take the plunge. Cables too friggin expensive and I just got a google tv for free :yahoo:

Its really cool and I found most, if not all of my favorite shows online. Google TV is making it pretty easy.

So is anyone else doing this? My wife is going to call the cable co tomorrow to drop our TV. Frankly...It feels pretty damn nice to break the tie!

i used to use antena tv untill the friggin FCC shutted down analog broadcast.. digital tv sucks and is not all its cracked up to be, borrowed a friends converter box and only got like 1 channel commpared to the 11 i had before. before there was some snow in the picture, now theres nothing, i hate progress, so now i have to use cable.

Google TV, First I heard of that one. I'm cableless, dishless, hell I don't even have antenna. I don't get any broadcast TV. I've got a 32" 1080P LCD but the only things it's currently used for is watching movies and as a computer monitor. What TV shows I do watch is on HULU, or the channel's website.

If they had cable out here I'd use it because I also want cable internet, even 6meg DSL is too slow for me, downloads fine but upload sucks. Until the day it's available I'll be relying on internet (might break down and get a christmas tree), but no dish for me.

I have been watching netflix now for a while.I miss some things on cable but not enough to spend the money they charge.
I cant see spending that kind of money when too many shows have only 8 or 10 new episodes then 9 months of reruns.

That's odd my parents got a better signal, picture and gained a channel or two (not including the sub channels) after the switch. They are still using a 10 or 15 year old analog "christmas tree" antenna and at the time were using a converter box. Since then the TV died and they went to a Visio 37" 1080P LCD with the digital tuner, still using the same old antenna, still works great.

i'd LOVE to get rid of cable. introductory, new customer rate around here is $100 a month.....$1200 a YEAR!!!! just to watch freakin TV. and we pay like $114.

wife has to watch her stupid shows though. so we wont be getting rid of it.....ever, i'm guessing.

ugh....i have to leave this thread or i'm gonna start breaking shit

I have a 66" LCD and a PS3 with Netflix, no cable or anything. I goto Redbox pry once a week or so? Other than that All Netflix.

Build you a digital antenna, here's the one I built.

I've done without cable/dish/etc for several years now. Got a nice 32" flatscreen tv at the end of my bed that has been used so little it's practically new. I have an xBox, DVD player, VHS player, and my comp hooked up to it though for when I do use it.

Cable company doesn't want to come down our street to pick up the two houses and camp on it, guess they figure there isn't any profit in it for them (I would like cable internet, I could care less about cable tv).

Satellite doesn't work here - you have to aim the dish at a bunch of trees, which for obvious reasons does not work well. My one neighbor tried both Dish and Direct, neither worked out.

And when the FCC went to all digital, yup, we got snow for channels even with the converter box. On a good day you could pick up a lil bit on two channels if you were lucky. It was hard enough trying to pull in the analog signal here, but once it went digital, that was the end of that.

And to be honest, I don't miss it. I got plenty of stuff to do to keep me busy around the house, working on my projects and whatnot, using my comp, reading, etc. Once I discovered that there was more to life than the TV, I found there was tons of stuff to do.

Man you can use foil, cans, un-needed wire from your rig and shoot to trunks with your VHF ect all over. How do you live beyond childhood? Thought everyone could make a dipole by 3rd grade geeesssh.

I don't have cable or satellite anymore. I've had both in the past but have gone for years at a time without either. I do have Netflix now (1 disc plus xbox streaming), because it was a gift, otherwise I probably would have never gotten it.

I do have a pretty good Clearstream antenna, I didn't build it myself, but it works well in my area.
