Anyone here Cableless? (as in no comcast, dish, ect...)

I don't have cable or satellite anymore. I've had both in the past but have gone for years at a time without either. I do have Netflix now (1 disc plus xbox streaming), because it was a gift, otherwise I probably would have never gotten it.

I do have a pretty good Clearstream antenna, I didn't build it myself, but it works well in my area.

Must be a sweet antenna if its pulling in out there in ND, post up what it is or pics to help others get out of the 3rd riech tv blitz.

I'm a total TV junkie. I can't live without cable and I need to see my shows every week. However, I've been really busy lately and haven't had time to watch them much. So I tape them and watch them when I have time.

I'm pretty excited about it. If everything works out the way it should, we'll be saving about 120 a month....See why I'm getting rid of it now? That extra money goes to the truck! (I wish)

Oh and I did miss the presidents speech last night..Guess I would of seen that if I had it now wouldn't I?

You'd be surprised how many, if not all, that you can find online. I'm in the same boat as you..

havent had cable since 2008 love not having the bill. watch shows on the inter web that i cant get over the air

And to be honest, I don't miss it. I got plenty of stuff to do to keep me busy around the house, working on my projects and whatnot, using my comp, reading, etc. Once I discovered that there was more to life than the TV, I found there was tons of stuff to do.

Really though, I could survive without a TV. The internet though? Not so much. I might have to enroll in some type of rehab.

My TV setup is done totally on the cheap. I had to severely cut expenses a while back so I scrapped the dish and the cell phone and the landline. For TV, I use hulu, Fox.com, ABC.com, etc, and also put one of the those Hauppage HD Tuner/DVR cards in the computer (also an Ooma VOIP line for phone service as well as dry-loop DSL). The hard part was getting good signal for digital TV with my yagi attic antenna. My solution was to add one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Channel-Master-CM7777-Antenna-Preamplifier/dp/B000GGKOG8

This is the top rated preamp, IMHO. I think I paid $50 shipped last year; worth every penny. It will fix reception problems if you are within 60-70 miles of the transmitter.

As of today, my TV/Phone/Internet outlay is something like $18/month. Nice.

If I was paying for it, I wouldn't have it. But I'm not so we have it. I could use Hulu for my shows but DVR works wonderfully. I like helping ratings, which Hulu doesn't do.

Well, no cable or dish here. Was getting great reception with the 40 ft tower antenna but the rotor took a crap, it's only 30 years old. Stuck with ABC & CBS and sometimes can get FOX. Friends that get 250 channels say that that's just more channels not to watch. I am able to get some good old movies on the dash versions from the local stations. Yesterday was Rooster Cogburn with the Duke! Too busy in the Summer to worry about it.

It's ok, it doesn't pull in any spectacularly far channels, just the local ones. What it does do well is pull in channels from opposite directions, 30+ miles southeast and others 40+ miles northwest, not an easy feat for an antenna. I used others before this and had trouble tunning them to work well with channels from opposite directions; it was either good for the channels one direction or good for the channels in the other direction. This antenna works much better in both directions. This is what I have, ClearStream 2: http://www.antennasdirect.com/store/C2-Clearstream-DTV-antenna.html
It's mounted outside on the roof of my garage. My neighbors and friends said "WTF is that" when they first saw it.

Man you can use foil, cans, un-needed wire from your rig and shoot to trunks with your VHF ect all over. How do you live beyond childhood? Thought everyone could make a dipole by 3rd grade geeesssh.
Are you referring to me with that comment?

First off, the trees that you have to aim a dish at are on someone else's property. So in order to relay a signal, you would need their permission. I just don't care enough about having TV to bother with that.

The Internet is important to me. TV with all the stupid shows and idiotic talking heads on the news.... well, I really, really don't miss it. I have Internet and a working radio, that's all I need. Any shows that I do become interested in, well, you can find them online most of the time and often anymore you can get them on DVD at some point. Then I can watch them without commercials whenever I feel like kicking back and relaxing.

Besides, all my scrap metal gets turned in for money, lol.

I really dont care that much about tv either, i made my digital antenna mostly for the heck of it to see if it would work.

I have been without cable or sat for six years now. I have high speed internet through Uverse. Nothing on tv worth even30 bucks a month. For tv shows we like we watch online oruse Netflix.

Still living with my parents right now, they have Direc Tv and i love it. For what its worth its great. But im getting married in September and the soon to be Mrs. and i wont have tv, just internet. The only thing i will ever miss about tv is not having mlb network. I dont know if i can watch it online but thats all i ever watch so im going to extremely miss it if i cant watch it on the interwebs.

i could care less about tv and don't have one.. the only thing i watch is the trucks, extreme 4x4 on spike network and i can view them online...
