I moved into an apartment a couple weeks ago with my girlfriend, don't plan on getting cable. We've got DSL so I got out an old computer and plugged it into my tv, watch hulu or netflix on it. I just bought an antenna from newegg, should be here by Friday, hopefully it will pull in the local channels.

Had directv for a while, but due to financial trouble we turned it off, tv hasn't been on since(it's not even plugged in), and I hardly miss it. I've got access to the netflix streaming but i don't even use it. I've found much better things to do with my time

that's another reason i'd like to get rid of it. we get home from work, i eat and watch tv then get up and go to the garage. wife just sits in front of the tv and watches her shows.

oh, then there's that whole $1200 a year that we could spend on something else.....i feel my blood pressure rising

That pretty much nails it on the head for me. Just watch the local and national news and a couple of the CSI versions. There are so many crap "reality" shows out there that really suck.

Alright..so I'm getting ready to take the plunge. Cables too friggin expensive and I just got a google tv for free :yahoo:

Its really cool and I found most, if not all of my favorite shows online. Google TV is making it pretty easy.

So is anyone else doing this? My wife is going to call the cable co tomorrow to drop our TV. Frankly...It feels pretty damn nice to break the tie!

Good luck. Everybody we know who told us they went another route are unhappy and most went back to Roadrunner or Verizon again!!! The dish does not work in weather issues....storms cause the reception to fade....hope you don't mind missing a great game while a storm is there, Comcast sucks since there is a lot of complaints to the BBB about it. We have kept our cable and reduced or package so we only pay for the phone and cable $49.00 a month. I don't care for HBO or Showtime and these other movie stations. We paid for them and then one day we said....'We never really watch these stations...there is nothing we want to see...why are we paying for them'?
We go to see a movie for $6.00 each (just don't go hungry). We buy movies for dirt cheap when we want to see something. We like the History Channel, Discovery channels etc. etc. We love our HD stations!!! So clear on my 1080 HD 60 inch TV!! We have saved over $40 a month dropping the stuff we don't care to view or need to have!!!!! I have great reception in the worst of weather!!!!!

Lol i dont have cable at my place, but i download and watch my movies and shows if i feel like it. More into games in my spare time. Much rather play StarCraft2 than sit there and channel search lol :P

I had to do a lot of research but found almost everything we used to watch online. And some have a pretty good resolution..Its not the HD we had but, its better than not having it at all.

If we were to go back, we would most likely go for the cheap cable. I don't see that happening though...It feels nice saving 100 bucks + a month.

I'm 19 and have never had cable in my house, didn't even bring a tv to the dorm this year, also just using dial up internet and didn't get a cell till I left for college. Screw technology I'd rather be fishing
