Anyone have a snow plow on their Ranger?

i been having issues with the moogs.

i got a swap job coming up that has shot 2nd set of low mile moogs on it..

same thing with the full size gm,s.

Moods quality is the past 10-15 years has gone down the toilet.

I replaced my ball joints with napa ones. That have almost 100k on them so far even with my heavy plow

Thanks I'll go Napa

I have a warn snow plow that I usually install every summer. It light weight and easy to remove and install. Problem is the tag price, and parts and maintenance is a bit expensive.

Napa sells extra weight coils for the TTB that supported a 6.5 fisher on my 91 with no issues.

I see this thread was started back on 9/8/13 & the last post was on 7/22/17.
But I will post my info for future readers.

First off, the worst thing you can do to any truck is install a plow.

2000 Ranger off road 3.0l, was originally a automatic but the addition of the plow on the 140000 mile trans took care of that! It now has a 5 speed, it came factory with 4:10 gears then I installed a limited slip in the rear and doubled the leaf springs, cranked up the torsion bars and installed Timbrens on the front and rear.
I’m running a Meyer 7’ with a E47 pump on the front, this year I installed a 7’ rear plow. I use 4 low when plowing as it makes up for the lack of power of the 3.0.
This thing has plowed a mountain of snow and although I’m still currently using it as a daily driver & plow truck it has payed the price for it with a early grave.

Thanks for the well written post. However your pic is hella big. Could you make it smaller please, like 1200x800 or smaller.

Is that better?
I’m using a smart phone, all the pics look small to me.[emoji3]

Some pics of my snowplow install;

Here is the plow assembled for the first time. Things went good.

I used a receiver extension to make a front receiver. when I bought the truck there was a piece already welded in, probably meant for towing. I used that and the existing front crossmember to weld it in.

I used the hook from a ratchet strap cut in half for safety chain connectors. These were not needed for the plow.

And the final result. The springs had to be tightened all the way, and it still trips too easily. I may add a spring or two.

Do you find with only one mounting point that the plow assembly rocks around a lot?

I use a homemade receiver then two additional mounting points to keep the assembly rock solid and lessens the chance of bending/breaking a single mounting point.
Of coarse I push a mountain of snow every year.

This is just one of my two personal drives, & I plow three other locations.

Yes it does rock around. I have thought about triangulating the system but haven't figured out how yet. The rocking is coming from the plow unit, not the mount on the truck. If you look close at the second pic you can see that the receiver is triangulated to the frame.

[emoji106]the mount is subject to ALOT more force the you think, I speak from experience.

Yeah, I've read that. I'm a little worried about the mount but will be keeping a real close eye on it. Thanks for the heads up tho.

No I don't (but I have F250 Hd coils from the factory snow plow option) have a snow plow on my Ranger.
