This is the 2nd tcase I've seen do this personally. Both trucks it happened to are 2001, both 4.0, both 5spd manual. Mine is geared to 4.88 and 35's and 1354M. His is 4.10 and 35's and 1354E. My buddy's split the trans output shaft in two, mine only cracked. In process of swapping in the rebuilt one as I type. I know when my buddy's did it, he was attempting a burnout. The day mine went was the first time I felt comfortable enough to push the truck to see what it could do after a month long battle getting the new engine running properly.

Is this 'common' or has anyone ever seen this before? MY guess would be a massive amount of shockload?

I've got sticky 35's, 4.88's, aussie locker, stage 2 clutch, traction bars, and a brand spankin' new engine that runs like a raped ape. I guess that's what I get for having grip and power?

you said it yourself...massive amount of shockload

with the sticky 35's...low first gear in the tranny....the aluminum transfer case was the "weak point"

yes, seen it before...almost allways on pavement when someone was tryin' to "show-off"

never offroad (as in off pavement ), or when in 4wd....when the shock is absorbed by the loose terrain or the torque is split between the 2 outputs...

Uhm.....'walks out to parking lot to check his own truck'.....

First time I've seen it on a 1354, have seen chains come apart and cause it on other cases though.

Dude!!!!

:icon_surprised:

I'd take that thing apart and see what failed. Just being curious.

They just dont build stuff as strong as they use to.

My buddys 1350 in his Bronco 2 did the same thing (spooled 9", 5.13's, 36" TSL's, and a 2.9L)

i seen it happen on an 88 ranger with 35s same way urs did my buddy had it 2 weeks and it split on him

What kind of hellish noise did that make when it went? Pretty crazy.

Honestly, when my buddys 1350 did that he drive it home down the highway and all. Didn't notice it till he went to change his clutch. Didn't make any noise?!?:icon_confused:

I drove into town on the highway going faster than everyone else....no noises or nothing until i slowed down and made my turn onto the side street.....at first I thought it was CV joint, almost like the sound it makes when in low and you're going in 5th and 5,000 rpms....it went away for after pulling into the parking lot, then it made the noise again and stayed and wouldn't go away. Parked it and my little brother said he smelled oil......then I said I smelled ATF. It totally went in the parking lot and you can see where it completely went. lol.

Fred Meyer parking lot ftw! Needless to say I got me the new Skillet cd, got me some BK lounge, and listened to that new cd twice whilewaiting for the tow.
