Any new firearm purchases?

. . . Well then. Now if only I had more of that green stuff everyone wants. . .

They are coming WAY down in price. And, if the ATF ever reverses course, they will not be able to use the "dangerous AND unusual" argument ever again if we all buy a bunch.

On topic, not much here, I traded my way into a Rossi 92 lever action in 38spcl/375 Mag. Haven't shot it yet. Also one of the local pawn shops is going out of business and had 50% off all shotguns so I picked up a Stoeger M3000 camo 12 gauge for $230 OTD. Bird hunting with something that can get beat up was the goal but I'm not sure I like it. It's really heavy but for some reason recoil with my #5 shot reloads is much worse than my old Mossberg pump or Remington semi auto - figure that out, it's weird, should be better with a heavier gun but it's worse. It also won't cycle target loads reliably (not surprised about that.) Might just sell it and stick with what I know works.

The wife and I bought an m&p sport2 ar15. Still haven't shot it though since we only have an indoor pistol range nearby. I picked it because of how similar it was to my m16 in the army
The M&P Sport 2 is a solid, ready to run out of the box AR. 👍

The BCG it comes with is the "semi auto" version , your have to replace it with a "full auto / M16 cut" version if you ever wanted to run any sort of FRT.

All your other standard AR pieces and parts are interchangeable tho!

Would you say you're a denser build, average, or on the thin side? Taller or shorter? It's an inertia gun, those have everything to do with how your body absorbs the recoil. I haven't had to tune an inertia gun in a long time, and don't have my notes, but based on what I can remember off hand and a WAG cuz I honestly don't remember the rules regarding this, it sounds like you might be on the stouter side, and you don't have enough give under recoil for it to open when it wants to, causing it to remain shut longer. I'd guess that when it finally does come open, the bolt velocity is enough to lengthen the recoil impulse if your #5 loads are on the hotter end. The target loads likely don't have enough oomph to get the bolt all the way back. Fun fact, if you put the butt against a brick wall and fire it, bolt wont move at all. With ANY load.

5'11", 230lbs. "dense." hahaha

My #8/9 target loads are just a hair above the starting load IIRC and I was using mostly Titewad and 700X for those... 7/8 oz shot. They have very little recoil in any of my other 12 gauge guns. I was not expecting them to cycle in this one and am not surprised that they don't - although they do cycle in my Remington Automaster 878. That is gas operated though.

The #5 loads are not really hot in the grand scheme of things, just 1-1/4 oz shot, 2-3/4 AA or Nitro hulls, and WSF powder. I will have to go back in my notes but I don't think I was much over the starting load for these either. I can shoot them all day long in a pump or over/under and they don't bother me one bit. They work very well in the Remington too. They feel like getting punched in the shoulder in this Stoeger though.

I'm not usually real recoil sensitive and I shoot shotguns a lot so I know what to expect but this Stoeger is making me feel like kind of a pussy and that does not bode well for killing birds.

Its the mass causing the harsh recoil. The more mass you throw the more it (the equal and opposite reaction) acts on the gun (and bolt) under recoil. I'd bet if you fired that gun from the hip it would cycle whatever you put in it with less recoil. My guess is the 1-1/4 oz load gets just enough recoil for the carrier to unlock then wholops you with the reciprocal mass (bolt and carrier assembly) after that. I don't remember the design of the 878 very well but I'll wager its probably in the liniage of the 1100 and piston operated. Fun fact, you can put the butt of a piston operated gun against a brick wall and it WILL cycle with any load it otherwise would have.

Makes sense. So, it is what it is then? Glad I haven't tried shooting the 3" mag turkey loads I have on the shelf. They are just incredibly harsh in a pump or a single shot I used to hunt with. Probably break my shoulder in the semi auto. And they make 3.5" loads...hard fawking pass.

The 878 was the predecessor for the 1100. It is about half the weight of an 1100 and doesn't use an O ring to seal the gas system but it only has a 3 round tube. They are very, very sweet shooting guns but somewhat fragile and impossible to find parts for. I had to TIG weld the bolt slide on mine as it was cracked. I love hunting with it but I also don't want to beat it up.

A gunsmith can tune the gun to work more efficiently with your stature. I don't want to speculate on what would need be done (again, don't have my notes accessible and haven't done that in years) but I suspect altering spring tensions and or weight of reciprocal mass would be involved. Possibly a spongeier butt pad to allow it some more give. Keep in mind if you hand that gun to someone like me afterward (6' and 150 lbs) it probably wont cycle properly. Your hold on the gun can make a difference too. If you're death gripping it into your shoulder thats compounding the problem. If you allow yourself to sway a bit more under recoil (not loose in the shoulder, mind you) and don't clamp down on it as hard, the issue may aleviate to an extent.

Fwiw I've never liked the idea of inertia operated gun mechanisms. There's a reason why the most popular big bore double guns with single triggers used in Africa had mechanical trigger resets, and NOT inertial resets. Mostly because they found when a large, angry African mamal is charging at you, you tend to tense up just a bit.

On that note, if you ever have issues with the trigger of a double barrel single trigger resetting after the first shot, its probably the same issue. You can test it by dry firing the gun and gently thumping the stock down on hard ground. The trigger should then be reset.

Yeah... I wouldn't pay much to get a Stoeger tuned up...

I have played with them at Scheels, they look ok but I have never gotten the warm fuzzies about them.

If I'm remembering the right inertia gun, they're a carbon copy of a Beneli Montefeltro. In fact I believe they interchange parts.

Minus the can.

Looks like it's time to buy a can... My FFL was building a SICK .338 Lapua last time I was at the shop. The thing was a monster!

Another build that got put thru its paces this weekend.

Roughly 400 rounds thru it at a Project Appleseed 25-Meter Rifle Clinic.

16" .22LR AR

Started with a complete OneHorse lower.

Swapped out the FCG for a leftover Aero Enhanced one from another build and the plastic A2 grip for a Hogue Overmolded. I like the way those feel.

Catch22 extended bolt catch with reduced power spring.

BoreBuddy buffer tube plug.

unBrandedAR upper.

RTB 16" 1:16 twist dedicated 22LR barrel.

CMMG bolt/bolt carrier group.

BoreBuddy bolt weight, hardened extractor, extra power extractor and firing pin springs and bolt buffer.

Radian Raptor clone CH from PeaceGeek with BoreBuddy insert
t filled with JBWeld.

15" slim/lightweight M-Lok handguard.

Mag-Pul angled foregrip.

Vortex Triumph 3-9x40.

FTN-5 style carbon fiber 3D printed suppressor from C4 Armory , a small local shop.

Ran like a champ!

If you know .22LR AR's you know they can be a little finicky; it took three range trips and another 200 rounds or so to get it dialed in.
Put another 300 thru it getting ready for the weekend.
And just for funsies, 40-grain subsonics are laughable. A handclap is louder. 😂

Gonna swap out the safety selector for an ambi version Cerakoted blue. I found the instructors having to really stop and look to verify the rifle was on Safe. And I've discovered that I like ambi safeties.

Not new or a purchase. But going through my dad's stuff i came across what I beleive to be my late granddad's revolver. It's a 32 cal. Smith and Wesson. I'm gonna do some research. But I'm pretty sure they quit making these in the 40s.

That is cool AF
I also got his Steven's 22 bolt action. It the gun I learned to shoot on. It's really the only 2 guns I wanted. For sentimental reasons. I did pick up some I had stored there. That I may end up selling. Some I haven't shot in over 10 years. I haven't been hunting in almost 15 years. Some Some have just set.

Between me, my FIL/MIL, my wife, and two good friends, we have probably 15-20 Stoeger over/unders, SxS's, and single shots. Personally I think their Condor over/unders are the best budget o/u on the market. I've got probably 1000-1500 rounds through my 12 gauge and it's just been great. My buddy used Stoegers exclusively for national skeet competitions, many thousands of rounds through his and they have held up very well. I think we had a couple weird ones, mainly trigger issues that were fixable. They are made in Brazil.

I'm totally with you on their semi auto's though. IMO any shotguns from Turkey no matter the price or brand are of suspicious quality. Allegedly the M3000 that I have has a reputation for being "a good canoe paddle", IE it is stupid reliable and it'll still function after you use it as a paddle. I'm not sure about that. It's way better quality than some other Turks I've seen... and definitely not as good as others I've seen... but those are WAY more than this one cost, even new.
