Another park brake cable thread

After performing a search here I noticed parking brake issues seem to be common with rangers. Problems I've been having are with "Roberts" brand cables where the transparent plastic coating on the cable itself gets stripped off, bunches up and dramatically increases friction inside the casing leading to reduced force on the drums and eventually, failure of the pedal to come up all the way. Its so bad that I am putting off dealing with the park brake on my F250 as well until I can find something better (through lubrication and some abusive methods I've revived them several times). Even the local ford dealer is selling that brand and I won't use it ever again. Lubricating the cable makes no difference either when dealing with the roberts cables and I've seen the stripped casing happen with or without some oil in there.

Has anyone else noticed this problem, and do they have some suggestions for better brands of E brake cables? I should add, this isn't an issue with age or corrosion because the failure happened within a week of installing a brand new cable.

e brake woes

I hear you. the same thing happened on my napa cables. I was using auto zone and advanced auto parts cables and after one winter they were junk. purchased napa cables and have the bunching issue. searhing for them online but its frustrating. they are obsolete, may try to fab some.

Crud, I guess we're on our own.

I've seen some sites that offer to make custom cables out of completely stainless steel for the cable and casing but its not cheap. I know getting some SS cable wouldn't be hard, but I'm just having a hard time locating a suitable SS coil casing. If I have that I could use some long lengths of heat shrink or thread it through some fuel line to make it more water tight. Just have to find something that would work I guess....

ive got wagner cables on my truck, i got 1 winter and 1 summer on them and the passenger side started hanging up but hey its michigan and shit just doesnt last here.
