What have you pulled, recovered, rescued lately? How did it go? Have you got a big boy winch? Something smaller maybe, with a snatch block? A come-along? If you are living up north here, how has it been? And down south? I'm told red Georgia clay gets very slippery when wet.

I have an 8k winch on my Nissan. I've only used it once to get out of a 5' snow trail. Couldn't go backwards had to go forward. Just because. More than plenty for a midsize or mini truck. I've used a come-along many times for something quick and easy.

As the saying goes, "you never need a winch unless you don't have one".

Sorry @Lefty couldn't resist...

It’s difficult to pull a stuck vehicle with a shovel.
Well not exactly pull! I have high centered my old jeep a couple times way back when. I couldn't afford a winch back then ugh!...shovel shovel shovel!

Everybody knew I had a jeep, of course. So I would often get calls from my friends who got stuck. I had a tow rope and yanked people out. I gave up on that after a while. One lady asked me to pull her free way back when. I clearly explained that she needed to put her foot on the break as soon as she was pulled free. She didn't. She forgot. Her car got badly dented. The jeep was just fine of course. That was one of the reasons why I switched to a winch.

My wife's car has been stuck a couple times. I don't trust her at all. So I use the winch. Leave the truck in park, And sit in her car steering while I work the remote control. Times have changed!

I’ve pulled other vehicles a couple times with straps using the 2011.

The 2019 was pulled out once in a soft yard with a trailer full of firewood using straps. That is when I confirmed that the factory “All Terrain” tires were indeed not All Terrain. Even in 4 LO with a locked rear, the tires just spun.

I tend to get High-centered on things that are too hard and heavy to shovel.

We were discussing safety on another thread. A good yank works very well, but sometimes too things can go very very wrong when your truck breaks loose, especially if it is tethered to dead weight.

It was a solid, assisted pull off the factory equipped recovery points. A snatch recovery certainly wouldn’t be a good idea with about a ton of dead weight attached. If that didn’t work, the next step was to disconnect the trailer and figure out what the next step was going to be. Thankfully, we didn’t have to get the next step. I don’t think the trailer would have gotten pulled out without damage.

I can confirm that a shovel would not have helped Eric on the trail ride this year.

Well, a big enough shovel would have… with a Diesel engine attached…
